JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:
Description: Successful candidate will plan, coordinate, and perform engineering assignments in support of telecommunication systems and projects for Eversource internal customers.
Duties will include; identifying and development of communications specifications and associated scope of work documentation.
Drafting and the development of detailed design/drawing packages with AutoCAD.
Providing engineering support during and after implementation of systems. Will have experience with project management, planning and or deployment of; Optical transport, DWDM, SONET, Packet Optical, TDM, digital microwave, various mobile and fixed wireless services.
Senior engineer will also support and drive Eversource standardization initiatives, will develop and follow established processes to maintain and manage the telecommunication assets and systems. Will be familiar with power utility communication requirements associated with protective relaying, SCADA, IEDs, etc.
Duties also include configuring and specifying associated telecom equipment, interfacing with IP networks, and understanding and complying with regulatory bodies such as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
Education: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or Computer Engineering is preferred. A Master's degree and/or Professional Engineer license is desired.
Minimum of eight years of related experience is required. Additional requirements include: very high standards of professional and technical competence and a complete and thorough knowledge of technical skills; thorough knowledge of engineering techniques; and thorough knowledge of federal and state regulatory criteria and industry codes and standards pertaining to the engineering of telecommunication systems. Senior level telecom engineer will require in depth knowledge of the communications utilized in the electric utility environment and have design drafting experience with AutoCAD.
