Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Eversource

Diversity, equity and inclusion are core values that help drive the way we do business with our employees, customers and suppliers. Those values strengthen our bonds within the multi-cultural communities we serve.

Diversity is the variation among individuals and groups based on identities, experiences and backgrounds.

Equity with an internal focus is ensuring all employees have access to the same career opportunities in a fair and just manner.

Inclusion is intentionally engaging all employees, treating them with respect and dignity and creating an environment where all are welcome.

Our goal is to remain the best energy company in the nation, and to be the first with carbon-neutral operations by 2030.

We will achieve this by valuing the diversity of employees who bring different perspectives to the table. We are committed to:

  • Creating an inclusive workplace where all employees, customers and stakeholders are respected and valued.
  • Leveraging the talent, unique perspectives, cultural and life experiences of every employee to ensure our continued success.
  • Attracting, developing and retaining a diverse workforce that can work together to meet the changing needs of the customers we serve while delivering reliable energy and superior customer service.

Leadership Commitment

Our leadership, led by President and Chief Executive Officer Joe Nolan, is committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. We are actively involved in regional and national efforts to create more opportunity in our workplaces and communities.

Commitments include:

  • We are a signatory company with the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion, the largest CEO-driven business commitment to advance Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the workplace.
  • Our company is active in Paradigm for Parity, a coalition comprised of business leaders, board members and academics committed to addressing the corporate leadership gender gap.
  • In 2020 we surpassed our goal to donate $4 million to diverse organizations and social agencies within our communities.
  • In 2021, Joe Nolan expanded our senior leadership commitment by announcing a new position of Vice President, Corporate Citizenship & Equity. This supports environmental justice and equity considerations into decisions throughout Eversource’s operations.

A commitment to diversity at both the Board of Trustees and the employee levels contributes greatly to the success of our company.

In 2020, our 11-person Board included nine members who have served for nine or fewer years — three of whom are women — and four members who are persons of color.

We believe that the mix of longer-tenured Trustees and recently elected Trustees — together with industry-leading diversity and significant experience — provide for the kind of balance that contributes to the overall effectiveness of the Board.
