Role and Scope of Position:
Responsible for the operation of the Company’s Gas Control room operation. Direct, oversee and monitor all activity on the distribution system to ensure safe, continuous, and reliable gas service to all customers via a comprehensive control room operation monitoring and controlling all aspect of activity on the gas distribution system.

Essential Functions: 

  • Oversees all aspects of the gas distribution system ensuring activities are performed in accordance with federal and state regulatory requirements, specifically 49 CFR 192.631 Control Room Management.
  • Oversees the consolidation of Gas Control rooms to new location in Westborough, MA.  Ensure successful transition to new SCADA system and all associated new applications.  Ensure support model for new applications is implemented and fully meets the needs of the business on an ongoing basis.  Monitors performance and adjust when needed.
  • Coordinates with LNG and LPG Operations to be ready to perform in a manner fully supportive of the contracts negotiated by Energy Supply, and to meet customer need for supplemental gas as needed.
  • Coordinates with Instrumentation & Regulation (I&R), build a close teamwork relationship focused on safe operations.
  • Develops a more streamlined, cost efficient, and reliable telemetry installation and replacement program.
  • Provides guidance and support to drive operational improvements to optimize or expand gas distribution system performance to support customer demand where possible.  Explores new opportunities or technologies that may enable increased capacity.
  • Works with other Gas Operations Directors to manage, balance and coordinate external and internal resources required to meet short- and long-term objectives and performance goals.
  • Establishes and monitors goals, policies, plans, standards, performance objectives and budget for Gas Control to ensure alignment with both the Gas Organization and corporate goals.
  • Collaborates with other areas of the gas business in areas of curtailment planning, integrated planning, supply planning, and emergencies.
  • Ensures compliance with Transportation Security Administration security directives for both physical and cyber security.  Monitors and applies as needed for ongoing compliance.
  • Collaborates with other Gas Directors in developing a robust, consistent, and fully integrated framework of work practices ensuring the delivery of service excellence and best in class processes.
  • Oversees development of area staff.  Develops a mindset of ownership and employee accountability for outcomes and consistent level of productivity and quality of work.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Requires thorough knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining Control Room Management
  •  Knowledge of natural gas distribution operations a plus
  • Requires working knowledge of information technology and the use of the Company’s Gas Business office automation and information systems.
  • Requires strong administrative, communication and leadership skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, applied science, related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Master’s Degree or MBA preferred.                   

Experience:      

  • Minimum of twelve (12) years gas distribution, utility, or technical experience                    

Licenses & Certifications:

  • None

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration and work stoppage assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment but does require some time in the field to resolve complex problems and keeping up to date with their operation.

Mental Aspects:

  • Work includes analyzing, planning, organizing, evaluating and documenting. 
  • This role works in an environment that often requires the performance of multiple simultaneous activities, where deadlines need to be met and work is performed under pressure while involving significant business commitments and results.
