This is a hybrid role.  The first three months are fulltime in the office. 

This Manager position is an enterprise-wide role, responsible for the planning, coordinating and management of substation engineering related activities required to support strategic, competitive, and system interconnection (LGIA, DER, BESS) solutions development across the Eversource operational service territory in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Responsible for managing the Substation Solutions Engineering department, consisting of a team of Substation Electrical Engineers with resources located in each state. Primary department duties include engineering and design support of substation viability/feasibility solution studies, design of conceptual solutions and development of engineering and procurement execution strategies. Manages Substation Solutions engineering resources to ensure all project commitments are properly supported as necessary to meet company objectives. Where applicable, responsible for the successful transition and turnover of projects for detailed design and construction oversight by regional substation engineering & design teams.  The Substation Solutions Manager and associated resources will be responsible for all Battery Energy Storage System projects including ownership and development of all associated standards, specifications, and subject matter expert duties. Additional functions under the direct management of this position include development of technical specifications for engineering services and substation equipment and materials.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide guidance and oversight of the teams engineering processes/procedures and design deliverables to ensure quality of design product and compliance with Eversource and industry standards, internal safety standards and operational practices.

  • Plans, coordinates and manages the work activities of personnel assigned to the Substation Solutions Engineering group.

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of all standards, procedures, training, and engineering/design guidelines associated with the Substation Solutions engineering function.

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of all standards, procedures, training, and engineering/design guidelines associated with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) on the Eversource transmission and distribution system.

  • Responsible for coordinating with project initiators/owners and Project Management to understand unique project needs and develop and execute strategies to provide substation design deliverables to meet specific project requirements.

  • Responsible for facilitating regular communication/reporting to regional substation managers to review portfolio of active competitive and strategic projects as necessary to ensure coordination with ongoing capital projects.

  • Department is responsible for developing engineering execution strategy for strategic, competitive and system interconnection projects including coordination of turnover to regional substation engineering teams for execution of preliminary and detailed engineering phases and construction support. 

  • Participates in various state, regional and national organizations involved in standardization of electric T&D substation materials & equipment, specifications and construction designs (e.g., ANSI, IEEE, EPRI).

  • Collaborates with other managers within Substation Engineering regarding all matters associated with substation design standards, tools/software, design processes and procedures.

  • Oversees the management and development of area staff.  Implements programs to ensure employees possess technical and behavioral skills required to support operating plans.  Manages, selects, coaches and develops area staff.

  • Manages the staff by establishing and monitoring staff goals, policies, plans, programs, performance objectives and budget.  Analyzes and recommends resource levels to plan, develop and implement programs and policies.  Aligns department goals to meet corporate objectives. 

  • Actively supports safety first culture as well as storm and /or emergency restoration assignments

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

  • Technical Knowledge/Skill: Requires a thorough knowledge of T&D substation design engineering and operations support, managing operating budgets and operating plans and working cross functionally.

  • Education: Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.  Master’s Degree in Engineering or MBA preferred.

  • Licenses & Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.

Experience:

  • Ten years related experience in engineering in substations, distribution and/or transmission engineering or operations.

  • Five year in a management and/or leadership capacity is desirable.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.

  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program.  The annual salary range for this position is $157,000.00 to $175,000.00, plus incentive.  Salary is commensurate with your experience.  Check out the career site for an overview of our benefits.
