This is a hybrid role. The first three months are fulltime in the office.
This position acts as the Engineering Solutions Operations Manager for the Electric Service Modernization Plan (ESMP) and Underground Cable Modernization Plan (UCMP) programs. This role is responsible for progressing the Engineering Design from order of magnitude through IFC and construction support. Will serve as the lead point of Engineering technical contact with both internal and external groups. Needs to be a subject matter expert for the development, design and implementation of all programs and policies related to the Engineering Solutions of electric system transmission, distribution, and substation facilities.
This position ensures the portfolio of projects is completed within established schedules and budgets, as well as designed in adherence to all engineering specifications. This position also serves as the Engineering Project Manager on assigned complex or high-risk projects and is responsible for strategic planning and execution of these projects from order of magnitude design through completion.
Provides the leadership and direction for the effective planning, organization and deployment of resources both direct and through a matrix support structure. It assists in defining work, mutual commitments and expectations with other departments through direct and matrix engineering resources in support of the ESMP and other relevant projects/programs.
The creation of Engineering designs to meet the needs of a particular project (program) to satisfy the technical and electrical system requirements. Project Engineering covers a range of engineering disciplines (i.e., electrical, mechanical, civil, structural, etc.). The activities associated with Project Engineering include discipline engineering and design, planning, the production of engineering budgets, schedules and risk assessments, and the provision and coordination of resources to execute the work
Essential Functions:
Exhibit both leadership and management skills to successfully lead a cross-functional group.
Ensures that engineering is developed with complete information and that all multidisciplinary information has been included in the engineering development and all assigned deliverables.
Design authority and technical lead for all engineering activities beyond order of magnitude for assignments on projects/programs that are classified as a very high engineering complexity (example, ESMP and UCMP).
Ensure that the activities related to all engineering disciplines within the project are efficiently and cost effectively executed in accordance with schedule, engineering standards and safety requirements.
Selects and oversees development of Engineering staff, including supporting staff (i.e., Estimating, Regulatory, Compliance etc.). Mindset of ownership and accountability for outcomes and consistent level of productivity and quality of work
Provides technical support for new and existing substations, substation equipment and transmission line development projects associated with ESMP and other relevant projects/programs.
Accountable for the development, maintenance and management of material, construction, operational considerations, maintenance and design standards for ESMP and other relevant projects/programs.
Collaborates with other managers within Engineering on life cycle, risk analysis and reliability reporting and planning. Cross-collaboration on engineering resource (Subject Matter Experts – SME’s) needs to support strategic programs, growing both the matrix organization and direct reports.
Defines project tasks and ensures allocation of these tasks among project team members.
Creates and implements strategies for risk assessment and mitigation, opportunity assessment and project optimization across the suite of projects/programs.
Oversees the management and development of area staff. Assesses the need for, and oversees implementation of, programs to ensure employees possess technical and behavioral skills required to support operating plans. Manages, selects, coaches and develops area staff.
Manages the area by establishing and monitoring area goals, policies, plans, programs, performance objectives and budget. Analyzes and recommends resource levels to plan, develop and implement programs and policies. Establishes operating and financial objectives and aligns with department goals. Responsible for management of area financial resources.
Acts as a design authority for engineering deliverables in all applicable engineering disciplines.
Collaborates on project installation, commissioning and site activities, clarifying potential issues or providing solutions to correct engineering changes.
Provides technical support to commissioning and startup activities.
Lead creation of new process, tools and techniques in the business to establish more robust, efficient and thorough means for completing design related work. Advocate for software improvements.
Ability to serve as a Company expert witness at regulatory hearings to provide technical support in assisting permitting approvals for all projects under jurisdiction.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
Requires thorough knowledge of substation design engineering and electric system
Requires extensive knowledge of electric transmission and distribution systems.
Requires knowledge of the construction industry and project management.
Managing operating budgets and operating plans
Working cross functionally
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
Master’s degree in Engineering preferred.
Professional Engineering License in the Commonwealth of MA or State of CT or NH preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of ten (10) years of related experience, including managerial experience or combination of experience and education.
Demonstrated experience in planning and leadership of performance improvement efforts.
Compensation and Benefits:
Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $151,380 to $168,200, plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Check out the career site for an overview of our benefits.
