2025 Summer Transmission System Planning Intern
11/21/2024 Locations Westwood-MAThe position is a learning opportunity for interns pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis is power systems engineering and analysis.
This Internship will be working in Westwood, MA and will be full-time during the summer months in 2025.
Responsibilities
- Work alongside experience Transmission Planning engineers and assist with the verification of transmission planning models, which include power flow, transient stability, short circuit and EMT (Electro-Magnetic Transient) models.
- Aside from model verification, intern will learn the principles behind transmission modeling and the need for completing these types of analysis to assure transmission system reliability.
- Expected to perform different types of analysis, with various degrees of complexity, and gain an in-depth knowledge of what it takes to assure system reliability, when tasked with keep the lights on.
- Become familiar with requirements specific to the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and ISO-NE and how these requirements are integrated into transmission planning studies.
- Other duties may be assigned including participation in meetings with ISO-NE and Eversource’s Operations to gain knowledge with the local and regional operation of transmission system.
Requirements
- Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited engineering program, studying Electrical Engineering with emphasis in power system engineering
- Familiar with necessary power system analysis tools, such as PSS/E, PSCAD and/or ASPEN
- MS-Office Skills (Word, Excel, Visio, etc.), Computer programing a plus
- Good writing abilities is a plus, along with good organizational skill
