Locations: South Hooksett, New Hampshire

Machines, welds (MIG, Stick, and TIG) aluminum and steel, tests, repairs, installs, and maintains all types of mechanical equipment at substations and other facilities throughout the system. Performs work under direct supervision.

System Machinist III Description

Machines, welds (MIG, Stick, and TIG) aluminum and steel, tests, repairs, installs, and maintains all types of mechanical equipment at substations and other facilities throughout the system. Performs work under direct supervision.

Starting Rate of Pay: $36.03 per hour

Bargaining unit employees with rights to this posting will be given first consideration. This is a union represented position so anyone going into this position would be required to become a member of the union.

Regular Duties:

• Performs machining to manufacture and repair parts and equipment made from a large variety of materials

 • Operates fixtures for in-place field machining of large equipment.

• Installs, tests, maintains, repairs, and rebuilds mechanical equipment such as generators, air compressors, pumps, and transmission and distribution equipment.

• Installs and repairs emergency power equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, refrigeration, and heating systems.

• Performs sheet metal work, plumbing, pipefitting, and cabinet making.

• Operates bucket trucks, corner mounts, fork trucks, and overhead cranes. Performs rigging and erects staging.

• Maintain filters, piping, and all mechanical components.

• Perform maintenance on mechanical systems.

• Fabricate and install hardware.

• Take vibration readings on equipment and interpret results.

• Record vibration, temperature, pressure, voltage, and electrical readings.

• Interprets mechanical drawings and performs calculations using trade book formulas.

• Performs other duties as assigned. Education: Vocational Technical College Certificate in Machine Tool Processes or equivalent. Associate degree in Machine Tool Processes or equivalent, preferred.

Experience:

Previous welding experience; related trades experience, helpful. Emergency generator experience, preferred.

Required Skills:

Mechanical aptitude; manual and finger dexterity. The ability to: communicate effectively and follow instructions; perform machinist work; competently use machine tools, hand, and power tools; interpret mechanical drawings; perform calculations with fractions and decimals; use trade book formulas; use precision measuring instruments; climb and work on ladders and elevated structures and in confined spaces.

Preferred Skills:

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of programs.

Education:

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).

License(s)/Certificate(s):

Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License with Medical DOT certification required.
