Locations: East Berlin, Connecticut

Role and Scope of Position:
This is an intermediate level position that works within the various system test and technical service departments (Substation Automation; Distribution Automation; Radio Services; Network Services; Central Maintenance Services) requiring a good understanding of applicable electronic systems and operating platforms. Handles technical assignments associated with acceptance testing, maintenance, and/or repair of various communications systems. This includes various communications platforms, process computers, peripheral hardware and various electronic components and devices. Responsible for compliance and maintenance of Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) systems.

Essential Functions: 

  • Calibrates, adjusts, and modifies performance characteristics of equipment to comply with regulatory and/or operation requirements.
  • May create and modify data base configurations and system one-line drawings for field devices
  • Reads and interprets engineering drawings such as schematics, wiring, logic and interconnections diagrams and updates with field changes
  • Provides input to reports, drawings, sketches, logs, and records of work performed
  • Constructs electrical or electronic circuitry to develop specialized functions or tests; designs, recommends and /or installs modifications to electrical or electronic systems or devices
  • Assists with the development and writing of operating procedures and test documents to guide users of electronic equipment and/or systems.
  • Analyzes and corrects level, impedance, scaling and other interface issues which occur when interconnecting electrical or electronic equipment from different manufacture or reusing, modifying or expanding existing equipment
  • Troubleshoots and modifies database configurations for programmable electronic devices and systems
  • May assist with training and developing the Test Technicians
  • Must work on-call and during emergency restoration efforts as required.

Network Services:

  • Works independently on technical assignments associated with the acceptance testing, maintenance, or repair of Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) terminals, digital microwave terminals and systems, mobile VSAT and portable satellite communication systems, TDM Digital Access Cross-connect systems, Frame Relay Access Devices (FRADs), TDM Multiplexers and channel banks, MPLS switches, carrier Ethernet, fiber optic test and splicing equipment, point to multipoint SCADA communications, monitoring and alarm systems, Telecom-based RFI investigations, personal computers and peripheral hardware, and various electronic systems, components, and devices.  Individual is also responsible for compliance and maintenance of Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) systems and must maintain annual CIP certification.
  • Calculates electrical or electronic quantities, based upon instrument readings or operational measurements of other qualities, such as voltage, current, radio frequency, forward and reflected RF power, time or optical domain reflectometry results, bit-error rate and spectral analysis of RF, IF (Baseband) or AF signals.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the use of serial and network analyzer tools to monitor or diagnose TDM bit streams, frame relay communications, SCADA, VOPI, MPLS and other packet-based systems.
  • Fabricates electrical or electronic circuitry to accomplish specialize functions or tests; performs fiber-optic fusion splicing; designs, recommends and/or installs modifications to electrical or electronic systems or

devices.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Strong knowledge of electrical and electronic components, circuitry, and systems.
  • Ability to use computer-based technology with various types of operating systems.
  • Skill and manual dexterity in making repairs, adjustments and modifications to equipment with a strong understanding of testing and measurement techniques.
  • Knowledge of specialized instrumentation use and application; working knowledge with electrical and electronic testing and measurement techniques.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively, in both verbal and written form.
  • Knowledge of switching and tagging procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Eversource safety rules and practices.

Education:

Associates Degree in electric engineering; electrical technology or equivalent.                   

Experience:

3 to 6+ years of related experience.     

Must Pass the TECH Test prior to interview.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Critical Infrastructure Protection certification must be maintained annually;
  • Must maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

$87,670.00-$97,410.00
