Senior Test Specialist
08/05/2024 Locations Berlin-CTThis senior-level position works within the Telecom Test - Communication Maintenance Services department. Acts as a senior technician, project, and/or crew leader. Responsible for handling assignments requiring a high level of expertise and extensive experience associated with testing and maintenance of battery systems, generators, HVAC systems, Cathodic Protection systems, and Infrared Thermography. Provides support directly or in collaboration with technical services, IT, system operations, control centers, dispatch, emergency preparedness and engineering personnel in performing maintenance, troubleshooting, deployment, repair, and installation of assigned systems to meet business requirements. This position documents testing and maintenance tasks and creates reports of test results. The Senior Specialist will train Test Technicians and Test Specialist level employees. The selected candidate must be able to work and solve problems both independently and on a team. Responsible for compliance and maintenance of Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) systems.
Essential Functions:
- Performs inspections of transmission and distribution electrical equipment using infrared thermography camera equipment and creates high quality reports of findings.
- Performs SF6 leak inspections using Optical Gas Imaging camera and creates reports of findings.
- Performs testing, inspections, and modifications of Telecommunication shelters, yard, and equipment.
- Analyzes battery test data to verify that battery systems are in compliance with manufactures specifications and agency requirements.
- Fills out inspection sheets and creates electronic test reports of findings in MS Excel and other computer based programs.
- May perform HVAC maintenance, including filter changes and cleaning.
- Inspects standby generators, troubleshoots issues, and calls for service when repairs are needed.
- Keeps organized documentation of all maintenance performed.
- Reads and interprets engineering drawings such as schematics, wiring, logic and interconnections diagrams and updates any field changes.
- Tests cathodic protection systems and performs associated corrosion inspections.
- Acts as lead technician during cooperative testing and maintenance tasks, overseeing other technicians.
- Provides input to reports, drawings, sketches, logs, and records of work performed.
- Reviews test reports of test technicians and test specialists for accuracy.
- Provides technical expertise, advice, and support to engineering, construction, test, and other personnel as required.
- Works with outside vendors to schedule repairs of equipment.
- May assist CMS Engineers with maintenance and repairs of transformer monitoring systems at electrical substations.
- Provides training and mentorship for Test Technicians and Test Specialist level employees.
- Works safely in both individual and team environments.
- May use company provided vehicle to tow trailers to support Telecommunication related tasks.

Technical Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong knowledge of electrical and electronic components, circuitry, and systems.
- Ability to use computer-based technology with various types of software (MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel and others).
- Knowledge and skill in using common hand tools required.
- Strong knowledge of electrical testing using voltmeters, ammeters, and/or other equipment.
- Skill and manual dexterity in making repairs, adjustments, and modifications to equipment.
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively, in both verbal and written form.
- Strong knowledge of Infrared Thermography and Optical Gas Imaging camera equipment required.
- Strong knowledge of battery systems required.
- Intermediate knowledge of cathodic protection systems required.
- Strong knowledge of industry safety rules and practices.
Education/Experience:
- HS diploma and 10+ years of experience testing and/or troubleshooting electrical systems/components required; Technical HS and 10+ years of experience preferred.
- Associates degree in electrical engineering, electrical technology or equivalent considered a plus.
- Experience testing, programing, and communicating with intelligent electronic devices through command line interface is strongly desired.
- Thermography experience required.
- Cathodic Protection experience or NACE CP1 certification required.
- Electrical license preferred.
Compensation and Benefits:
Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $110,380.00 to $122,640.00, plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Check out the career site for an overview of our benefits.
- Critical Infrastructure Protection certification must be maintained annually.
- Must maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
- CDL is preferred for Emergency Storm response assignment.
- Thermography certification
- Cathodic Protection /NACE CP1 certification is desirable.
- Electrical license desirable.
Working Conditions:
- This is primarily a field-based position with a service territory of CT and Western MA. Significant driving time in company provided vehicle will be required.
- Some overtime work may be required on nights and/or weekends.
- Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
- Employee must be physically able to walk/hike up to ½ mile, carrying backpack or tool pouch.
- Requires working in varying weather conditions, including inclement weather.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Candidates must successfully pass the TECH (Technical Occupations Selections System) TEST.
