Construction Equipment Operator
11/15/2024Locations: Berlin, Connecticut
Individual will support Connecticut and Western Massachusetts transmission, distribution, and substation work requiring the operation of construction equipment under this classification. The applicant must have a valid Class A CDL, medical card and Connecticut and State Crane License.(Able to obtain and maintain Massachusetts State Crane License). The candidate is required to be knowledgeable and operate all Company cranes, tractor trailer (including detachable gooseneck). Company tractor trailer qualification and tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain all are required. The applicant will be evaluated on his or her ability to operate equipment by physical testing, a Company Training representative and over-the-road testing. The individual is expected to be available for routine and emergency overtime assignments. Job site reporting within CT. And on occasion required to jobsite report to Western Massachusetts.
The salary range for this position starts at $30.78 and progresses in accordance with the union contract. Check out the career site for an overview of benefits.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- It is preferred that individuals hold a valid Commercial driver’s license (CDL) and satisfactory clean driving record, but are required to have the ability to acquire and/or maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 6 months of hire.
- Must be physically able to perform the “essential duties” of the Construction Equipment Operator position, as described above.
- Must be able to effectively interact, communicate, and direct the work of other co-workers.
- Must be available to perform overtime and emergency work as required and live within one hour of the reporting location
- Must successfully pass the Edison Electric Institute Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) Test, which is a requirement to be selected for this position. To access the brochures and practice tests, go to EEI's website and enter "eversource" as the name and "test" for the password.
Duties include:
- Deliver and set larger distribution transformers (including network units) and
large distribution regulators.
- Mobile transformer delivery to substations more than 140,000 lbs.
- Storm duty support moving and operating off-road equipment.
- Move storm/emergency trailers to/from remote reporting locations.
- Electrical equipment set and removals (breakers, switches, etc.).
- Deliver equipment & materials to job sites, includes permit (oversize overweight)
Loads.
- Deliver and set larger wooden and steel poles.
- Diesel fuel delivery with a 90-gallon pickup truck-mounted tank on/off road.
- Snow plowing at substations and job sites.
- Must be or able to obtain and maintain Transmission live line qualifications to 345 KV.
- Able to operate heavy equipment such as bulldozer, excavator and lull.
- Assists in performing various groundwork at the jobsite.
-Able to work with various departments personnel at the jobsite.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Candidates may need to take and must successfully pass the Construction and Skilled Trades Test (CAST) Test.
