Associate Engineer, Substation Engineering (Hybrid, CT)
12/01/2024 Locations Berlin-CTSubstation Engineering is responsible for working on substation design, maintenance, and support, optimizing the cost and performance of substation equipment on the transmission/distribution system. Substation Engineering also supports emergent and/or equipment failures, as necessary, to support operations.
Essential Functions:
- Acts as a technical leader and applies standard engineering techniques, company and industry standards, and procedures/processes on assigned projects.
- Ensures that the design, development and specification of additions, modifications and replacements to the transmission and distribution systems are completed accurately and in accordance with internal and industry standards.
- Fills the role of project engineer by providing electrical discipline leadership and interdisciplinary coordination and scheduling to ensure consistency and teamwork in project execution.
- Provide technical oversite and conduct project reviews of Engineering Contractors and their deliverables.
- Works with System Planning to develop substation specific scope in support of system reliability solutions studies.
- Supports emergent and/or equipment failure replacements as necessary to support Operations.
- Responsible for the development of standards, procedures, and equipment specifications.
- Ability to prioritize project work for several projects occurring concurrently under budget and time constraints.
- Maintains accurate records and files.
- Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
- Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products, have familiarity with Bluebeam Revu, have ability to navigate various software programs, and have knowledge of basic computer skills - such as video conferencing and instant messaging.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
- Knowledge of utility power systems is preferred.
- Ability to independently develop, present and execute new projects through collaborations with other departments.
- Familiarity with power related software is preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
Experience: 0-3 years related experience is required. Engineering design experience in 13kV through 362kV substation design preferred.

Working Conditions:
- Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
- Position will require occasional travel by car. A valid driver’s license is required.
