Systems Operations Center (SOC) Intern – Electric Distribution Systems (Summer)

A student intern to provide support to the CT Systems Operations Center to assist with maintenance or grid management tools for the Electric Distribution SystemThis internship offers hands-on experience supporting the systems that monitor and manage the electric distribution grid. You’ll work with the Systems Operations Center (SOC) team to help maintain grid management tools, support outage systems, and monitor system health—while gaining real-world exposure to utility operations and power systems.
Essential Functions:
With training and guidance from the SOC team, you will:
Support the Outage Management System (OMS) by assisting with maintenance activities, and data accuracy checks
Help process system changes and updates to ensure grid management tools remain current
Perform mapping registry updates to reflect changes in the electric distribution network
Assist with OMS sequence-of-event verification to support accurate outage analysis
Support DSCADA screen updates used by operators to monitor system conditions
Assist with updates to Operating Instructions as systems and configurations change
Help monitor the health and performance of the distribution system
Support the modeling of devices and systems used in electric distribution operations
Qualifications:
Interest in power systems, electric distribution, or utility operations
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn technical systems
Ability to follow documented procedures and work in a structured, operational environment
Comfortable working with computer-based tools and technical data
Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
Education: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Electrical Engineering, with a preferred concentration or coursework in Power Systems.
Interns are paid through our Managed Service Provider Program and are not employees of Eversource. Payrates are hourly and based on year of graduation and if the role is technical or non-technical. Technical rates start at $20.60 freshman and up to $27.38 for a senior.
