The Environmental Remediation Group is part of the Sustainability and Environmental Affairs Department. We are seeking a highly skilled project manager (senior specialist) to manage complex environmental investigations and remediation projects, as well as provide environmental support to construction projects. This position is crucial to protect human health and the environment by maintaining regulatory compliance while also achieving cost effective project execution.As a senior specialist, you will be working closely with other Eversource personnel, legal counsel, community stakeholders, regulatory agency staff, and consultants and contractors to develop and implement projects that comply with all laws and regulations and promote environmental stewardship and sustainability. This position will oversee work in all Eversource territory but primarily focused in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and implement investigation/remediation approaches for contaminated sites, including current and former electrical substations and former manufactured gas plants (MGPs) ensuring strict compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
- Manage consultants and contractors, including preparing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to complete projects safely and meet regulatory and financial requirements.
- Support construction projects with file reviews, hazardous building material assessments and soil management to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and cost-effective management.
- Conduct and/or manage real estate pre-acquisition environmental due diligence activities in accordance with ASTM and standard industry practices to minimize financial and environmental risk to the company.
- Closely track and manage financials for all projects, including tracking costs and forecasting future liabilities.
- Engage with regulatory agencies, community stakeholders, and internal teams (legal, accounting, procurement, community relations, gas and electric operations, real estate, and other environmental staff).
- Support internal operations and strategies, including tracking emerging environmental issues, reviewing and updating internal policies and procedures, and tracking and monitoring properties with land use restrictions.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
- Strong working knowledge of the state and federal environmental rules, including PCB management, remediation, and real estate due diligence. Strong project management, organizational and analytical skills are required.
- Experience with remediation and construction. Experience with hazardous building materials is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) as well as Adobe Acrobat.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related field
- Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related field preferred
Experience:
- 8+ years of utility environmental experience (in either industry or consulting). Experience with state environmental regulations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and/or Connecticut required. Expertise and working knowledge in PCB management, environmental assessment and remediation, and hazardous waste management preferred.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Must hold a valid motor vehicle driver’s license
- Professional licensure (PE, PG, LSP, LEP, CHMM) preferred
Working Conditions:
- Fast paced working environment with multiple projects and stakeholders. The job requires travel throughout the Eversource service territory of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire to support projects and actively coordinate with a decentralized staff. Attendance at some night meetings may be required. Applicant must have a personal vehicle. Primary reporting location: Westwood, MA. This is a hybrid role.
- Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
