This is a hybrid role with the first three months in the office.
Eversource is looking for a Senior Engineer, ISO Policy and Economic Analysis, Transmission located in Westwood, MA orHartford, CT or Hooksett, NH. With autonomy, you will perform transmission engineering and economic analyses of the clean energy transition in New England; prepares and submits data, reports, presentations, and compliance filings regarding Eversource transmission projects to ISO New England; and serves as a transmission engineering subject matter expert in state, regional, and federal forums. Responsibilities include modeling the electricity sector and use of the transmission grid; monitoring Eversource transmission projects and resource interconnections, developing and implementing process improvements to streamline data collection and reporting, reviewing key filings (such as Transmission Cost Allocation applications), and implementing strategies to gain stakeholder support at NEPOOL Committees.
Essential Functions:
Performs engineering power flow, economic capacity expansion, production cost, and probabilistic modeling analyses of the New England system. Oversees consultants who may be retained to perform technical analysis. Performs technical studies independently without consultant support.
Performs engineering studies and analysis of existing projects and project proposals. Interprets the results of such studies and analyses for strategic insights and guidance.
Provide subject matter expertise to state procurement evaluation team on transmission network and interconnection-related issues.
Analyzes federal (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission), regional (ISO New England), and state policy proposals for their impact on Eversource and our customers
Develops recommended policy positions, work with internal stakeholders to reach consensus on strategy
Develop analytical products, visualizations, research, and other advocacy materials to support policy recommendations and outreach
Scrutinizes technical reports related to the operational and economic impact of clean energy resources on the electric transmission and distribution systems in New England.
Represents Eversource on regional and national advisory committees (NEPOOL committees, trade associations, etc.)
May serve as an expert witness in state regulatory proceedings
Leads teams of internal stakeholders to reach consensus on strategy
Supports outreach and advocacy to external stakeholders
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
Experience with power system analysis software such as PSS/E, TARA, Powerworld, ASPEN Oneliner, etc. is preferred
Ability to perform technical economic analysis using standard industry tools, including ProMod and PLEXOS, and to interpret the results for strategic insights
Ability to write and edit computer programs that manage data flows into, and output results from, engineering and economic simulation models
Understanding of state and federal utility industry regulation
Experience and understanding with ISO/RTO processes and rules, particularly with respect to transmission planning, interconnection, and/or operations
Understanding of economic theory and wholesale electricity markets
Demonstrates competency and proficiency in oral and written communications
Demonstrates strong analytical skills, ability to apply knowledge to solve problems and strong team building skills; must think strategically
Must have technical knowledge of the New England transmission grid
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required
Master’s degree in engineering preferred
Experience:
5 to 8 years of related experience
Experience testifying in state or federal regulatory proceedings helpful, but not required
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid motor vehicle license
Working Conditions:
Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
Depending on the specific nature of the engineering role, position may require occasional to significant travel by car. A valid driver’s license is required.
