Senior Benefits Consultant
06/09/2025Locations: Westwood, Massachusetts; East Berlin, Connecticut
Responsible for providing strategic expertise for the administration of employer-sponsored defined benefit and defined contribution plans including plan design and compliance.Essential Functions:
- Recommends new, or revisions to existing, retirement benefit programs including the design, funding, participation, communication, administration and carriers.
- Plans, conducts and oversees moderate research, administrative assignments and presentations to employee groups upon request.
- Assists Tier 1 and Tier 2 with unusual and difficult customer requests.
- Assists with the development, enhancement and maintenance of benefit and HRIS systems and processes for Eversource retirement plans.
- Serves as the project manager and oversees the work of internal resources, as well as that of insurance carriers and other third-party administrators, concerning the introduction and implementation of new or revised programs.
- Maintains up-to-date expertise about developments in benefits plan design and administration.
- Remains current with pending or enacted legislation and provides management with necessary recommended changes to ensure existing benefit programs are in compliance with federal or state laws.
- Works with external parties such as consultants and actuaries as well as and carriers to file related compliance documents such as 5500s and Annual Funding Notices.
- Participates in the completion of actuarial valuations, premium statement reviews, non-discrimination testing, and special studies as required.
- Consults on benefit communications programs including HRConnect content and written/electronic communications.
- Works with various aspects of the Eversource retirement plans including research, design, finance and administration and ensures the privacy of plan participants’ personal information.
Skills and Abilities:
- A strong team player - focusing on collaboration, communication, conflict resolution, and a focus on shared goals
- Strong verbal, written communication skills
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make informed recommendations.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Word.
- The ability to problem-solve, be proactive, and demonstrate initiative
- Robust time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task required
- Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment
- Superb attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines
- Stay current and informed on changes to retirement plan regulations
- Requires knowledge of ERISA, DOL, IRS and state codes
- Ability to conceptualize and review standard financial analyses
- Ability to meet agreed upon set of developmental goals for this position
- Strong presentation skills
Education and Experience:
- 5-10+ years of progressive experience in Defined Contribution and Defined Benefit retirement plan administration and compliance
- Demonstrated mastery of all duties and skills noted in the Compliance Consultant job description
- Preferred bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- CEBS certification preferred
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of retirement plans and record-keeping
Working Conditions:
- Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary
