Role and Scope of Position:
Lead Engineer is responsible for the development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance and operation of the system and its equipment to meet the mission and objectives of the gas organization. In addition, this position coordinates the evaluation of system failures, and the appropriate resolutions, to provide support to gas operations on unplanned maintenance. Responsible for ensuring that the Eversource gas transmission and distribution systems are designed to high quality standards that provide customers with safe, reliable, and environmentally sound gas service. This position shares accountability with peers in the strategy, development, and design of the organization’s Asset Management Plan, a comprehensive long-term plan for the gas transmission and distribution system. Responsible for supervising, assigning, prioritizing and directing the work performed by other internal engineers, external engineering resources and staff.
Essential Functions:
- Supervises, coaches, and develops engineers; approves time and conducts performance reviews. Assigns, prioritizes and directs work performed by at least 2 FTE Engineers or 1 FTE Engineer and 1 FTE Designer.
- Manages and leads the Stations Asset Family (gate and district regulator stations) elements of the Gas Asset & Risk Management Program to ensure regulatory requirements and business goals are met.
- Works to ensure the stations (gate and district regulator stations) elements of the Gas Asset & Risk Management Program is effective and continues to drive down risk.
- Drives improvements and changes to the Gas Asset & Risk Management Program.
- Presents scope and progress of projects, results of studies and new tools, equipment and procedures to Gas Business leadership.
- Responsible for the cost and performance of the stations assets on the system which may include reliability analysis and trending of system events and monitoring of equipment condition.
- Responsible for the development, justification and approval of the Asset Family Plan activities over a multi-year horizon and for ongoing projects.
- Ensures that the design and specification of additions, modifications and replacements to the transmission and distribution systems, and the preparation of system gas permits and related customer notifications, are completed accurately and on time.
- Responsible for the development of preliminary engineering designs and the details, as necessary.
- Collaborates with other Engineers within Engineering to ensure consistency and teamwork.
- Provides technical support and direction to operating areas relative to system priorities, engineering guidelines and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations.
- Accountable for root-cause analysis, development and implementation of corrective actions.
- Responsible for the evaluation and selection of technology and equipment for the system.
- Responsible for the development of standards and procedures for design, operation and maintenance.
- Assumes the role of the Manager as required.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention-to-detail.
- Knowledge of gas system operations; gas system equipment design; applicable governmental and regulatory laws, rules and regulations.
- Working knowledge of standard office computer software (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
Education:
- Requires a BS Engineering
Experience:
- Eight years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the gas utility industry.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
Working Conditions:
Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
Work is performed primarily in an office environment which requires sitting, standing, walking and climbing stairs are involved.
Job can require traveling to operating districts, gas facilities and companies within and outside the state.
This position is categorized as safety-sensitive for the purpose of drug testing. Successful applicants shall be subject to a pre-assignment drug test if the individual is currently in a non-safety sensitive position. As an employee in this position, the individual shall be subject to random drug testing. A positive drug test will result in disciplinary action.
