Damage Prevention Specialist
05/06/2025Locations: Waterbury, Connecticut
LOCATION: Waterbury/Torrington
Plans and performs a variety of technical and clerical assignments associated with the Damage
Prevention function of gas facilities in an assigned geographic area of the Company.
Starting pay rate for this position:$32.38 per hour
Principal Duties:
Receives, records and completes Call Before You Dig locations requests; locates and marks out
distribution facilities, Reviews Blasting Tickets, notifies immediate supervisor or local Area Maintenance Supervisor as to the need of special monitoring of blasting activity per Company Operating Policy and Standards regarding, Blasting jobs, monitors progress of third-party construction in compliance with company Operations and Maintenance Policies as well as state and federal regulations.
Uses ticket processing systems to create, update and maintain high quality documentation as to work performed to complete the CBYD ticket. Completes all tickets with proper documentation in the
processing systems in a timely manner. Obtains field data and prepares as-built sketches on available systems to be used by mapping department to improve company facility records. Examines gas service installations for conformance to Company standards. Inspects Construction sites to ensure compliance with CBYD laws and Company Standards. Attend pre-construction meetings with excavators to discuss scope and scale of construction to enhance damage prevention as necessary. Perform locating of company facilities at a performance which annually meets or exceeds the “At Fault Damage” performance targets.
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or the equivalent (GED).
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of engineering, construction and maintenance policies, procedures, and standards. Knowledge of applicable governmental codes and regulations affecting gas distribution.
Knowledge of accounting and business procedures. Knowledge of environmental requirements as they affect operational activities. Demonstrated ability to read blueprints, operate computers and derive
accurate mapping information from computer systems. Ability to operate electronic pipe locating equipment efficiently and accurately. Ability to communicate effectively.
Working Conditions:
Constantly exposed to high noise levels, and traffic, construction site hazards and hazards on customer’s property.
This is a union represented position so anyone going into this position would be required to become a member of the union.
NOTE: The closing date is at 12:01 a.m. on date shown; interested candidates must apply by previous day.
Work Schedule:
Damage Prevention Specialist work schedule to complete CBYD tickets on a scheduled straight time basis (for 8 hours a day start between 6 AM and 6PM) will be as follows:
Monday - Friday
Tuesday - Saturday
The Damage Prevention Unit personnel will be located at various AWC, in a manner appropriately to provide adequate coverage. When necessary, management may move these resources between work centers to provide additional coverage. These moves will reflect good business judgement.
Take Home Vehicles:
Specialist will be at their first locate at the start of shift. DPS will be paid until their shift is done. Home travel time in excess of 30 minutes is not compensated.
The Specialist will discuss with supervisor the night before if workload or work schedule (meeting, supplies, etc.) require different arrangement
After Hour Coverage (Extension of Day and Emergency)
After hour coverage for CBYD/Damage Prevention and Emergency Locates will be provided by Damage Prevention Specialist. In each AWC an OT list will be maintained for this position.
If a resource is needed after hours for an Emergency Locate, the Company will use the current process of securing a Distribution Mechanic to do the Emergency Locate will be employed.
This position is categorized as safety-sensitive for the purpose of drug testing. Successful applicants shall be subject to a pre-assignment drug test if the individual is currently in a non-safety sensitive position.
