DEPARTMENT: GAS DAMAGE PREVENTION
LOCATION: SPRINGFIELD, MA
STARTING RATE OF PAY: $43.02 p/hr.

Job Summary:
The individual in this position will be responsible for driving to various locations throughout the day, using Company approved locating equipment, setting up job sites and marking pipe locations in requested limits of job site. He/She will perform leak investigations, leak surveys and encroachments as required. He/She will also screen Dig Safe requests and do any research needed to perform accurate mark out and complete all necessary paperwork with mark out results. Responsibilities will also include reading blueprints, sketches, work orders, etc. In addition, he/she will meet with contractors and city engineers on large jobs. The individual in the position will also respond to third party damages, assist in the investigation reports.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drive to various locations
- Use of Company approved locating equipment.
- Set up job site and paint pipe locations in requested limits of job site.
- Perform any research needed to perform accurate mark-outs. Complete all necessary paperwork with mark out results to meet 72-hour compliance.
- Reading blue prints, sketches, work orders, etc.
- Meet with contractors and city engineers on large jobs.
- Respond to third party damages, complete investigation reports.
- Perform all duties as required in leakage inspection by mobile or walking survey. Responsible for maintaining leakage records (i.e., Premark, job assessments)
- Check both locating and leakage detection equipment to assure in good working condition.
- Make emergency situations safe by the appropriate means.
- Exercise independent judgment when no standard procedures, methods, or guidelines are available.
- Participating in rotating standby/on call rotation to respond to all emergency Dig Safe requests and leakage requests after hours and weekends.
- Must be willing to accept shift, emergency assignments and work overtime.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Possess and retain an unrestricted motor vehicle license and have a history of safe driving habits.
- Must have the ability to read work orders, blueprints and sketches and have the ability to mark out locations
- Must be able to take measurements and make sketches to update Company records
- Must have experience with pipe locating equipment (Metrotech, pipe horn, metal detector, etc.)
- Ability to work within specific time frames, handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
- Must be able to work in a safe manner and keep vehicle and equipment in proper working order.
- Complete all training to Company standards.
- Residency requirement: must live within 30 minutes of the Springfield location.
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 2-3 years of work-related experience (ex. Utility Location or Utility Construction work)
Mental and Physical Requirements:
- Positive attitude and a team player
- Must pass a D.O.T. drug screen, if not presently in a covered position.
- Must be in good physical condition.
- Must have regular attendance and comply with the Company’s employee conduct policy.
Wage Progression:
Eligible for automatic increases to maximum job rate in accordance with the Labor Agreement.
