Electric Service Designer Helper

PRIMARY DUTIES
The individual will, on a daily basis, perform a variety of technical and clerical work associated with the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the area's overhead and underground electric distribution system. The individual must possess good public relations skills and demonstrate a high regard for both internal and external customers. This position requires the technician to ascertain the customer's needs and be responsive to customers by using their work queue, the internal web and meeting with customers and contractors as appropriate. The work also includes designing services, meeting customer in-service dates, designing underground developments, investigating electric equipment operating problems, etc. The position requires working in the office and field in both ideal and inclement weather conditions. Applicants must successfully pass the TECH test and work emergency and planned overtime when the need exists.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
An Associate’s Degree in electrical engineering, engineering technology and four or more years of directly related electric distribution experience are required for Step 7. An Associate’s Degree in electrical engineering, engineering technology and two or more years of directly related electric distribution experience, or a high school diploma plus one year of formal electrical training and three or more years of directly related electric distribution experience are required for Step 4. An Associate’s Degree in electrical engineering, engineering technology or a high school diploma plus one year of formal electrical training and two or more years of related electric distribution experience are required for Step 1.
The prospective applicant must be computer literate with regards to computer hardware and computer software and have the ability to learn and use, in a reasonable length of time, all of the various computer programs that are required to perform this job. Note: basic computer training will not be given. Electrical field experience is helpful but not a prerequisite. To ensure the individual’s development to a fully qualified field technician Step 11, the trainee must meet certain standards of performance before progressing to the next step. To assess these qualifications and their performance, successful completion of tasks outlined in the Time-Merit Progression Field Technician Manual as well as formalized technical training will be required.
The salary range for this position starts at $33.15/hourly and progresses in accordance with the union contract. Check out the career site for an overview of benefits.
Bargaining unit employees under the WMECO contract will be given first consideration. In addition, this position is being posted internally and externally.
