Role and Scope of Position:Individual will supervise, schedule, and coordinate testing and troubleshooting tasks related to preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and new construction activities. Individual will evaluate personnel and provide leadership for all field aspects related to microprocessor, electromechanical, and solid-state relaying, powerline carrier, Direct Transfer Trip (DTT), Supervisory Controls and Data Acquisition (SCADA), IEC 61850 systems, Human Machine Interface (HMI)/mechanical based annunciator systems, Digital Fault Recorders (DFRs), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), reclosing protective equipment (NOVA, Viper, and Scadamates), voltage regulation systems, cellular/radio communication networks, and Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) assets across Eversource’s NH service territory. Individual must demonstrate teamwork, strong communication skills, and be self-motivated while providing technical expertise and support to T&D control centers, construction departments, test & maintenance groups, project teams, and all engineering groups. Individual will ensure that all required work is performed safely, on schedule, cost effectively, and in accordance with company standards. Individual will perform field safety observations and actively participate in monthly safety meetings. The successful candidate will have emergency storm restoration assignments.
Position Requirements:
Experience with SCADA RTU’s, substation PLC/GUI systems, reclosing protective equipment (NOVAs, Vipers, and Scadamates), voltage regulation, and/or cellular/radio communication networks is required. Experience with electromechanical, electronic, and microprocessor protective relaying is desired. Supervisory experience is desired. Other requirements include knowledge of switching and tagging procedures, the ability to learn and use computer software packages used in the installation and maintenance of protection and control equipment, and the ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams, electrical/electronic prints, and vendor instruction manuals. Individual must have proficient computer skills. Experience with Cascade and the Transmission Outage Application (TOA) is desired. Individual must hold a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient completion of tasks related to the construction, operation, maintenance, and emergency restoration of transmission and distribution substation/field protection and communication systems.
Ensures the safe and prompt installation, maintenance, and technical support of critical relay hardware and various electronic systems, components, and devices.
Monitors key performance indicators, identifies trends, and takes appropriate actions.
Analyzes and interprets equipment test results of protection, automation, and control systems and provides recommendations of proposed corrective action.
Responsible for relay system and cyber security compliance by maintaining conformance to all applicable standards for new and existing equipment installation and maintenance.
Provides technical expertise to project groups for outage coordination and resource management. Provides technical expertise to engineering regarding work sequencing, technical design, and efficient implementation techniques.
Actively promotes and enforces a safety-first environment and positive safety culture.
Directs safety awareness and compliance initiatives within the group and monitors safety performance. Champions efforts to achieve world-class excellence through the execution of safe work practices and procedures.
Sets safety expectations with employees. Resolves safety issues/concerns in an appropriate and timely manner. Communicates safety lessons learned and promotes continuous learning of safe work methods, practices, and procedures.
Demonstrates and role models a customer-first attitude. Seeks to quickly resolve customer issues by collaborating with employees and other departments.
Engages and motivates employees to deliver the best possible customer experience.
Sets clear expectations and provides ongoing feedback to employees regarding their performance. Effectively addresses performance issues. Conducts comprehensive performance reviews (per applicable bargaining unit contract).
Responsible for the proper application of local union contracts and agreements. Works with managers and employees to resolve grievances and concerns in a timely and complete manner.
Prepares, reviews, and approves time, expense, material, and other company records in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with established guidelines.
Fulfills storm duty assignments and participates in on-call rotation as required.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
Working knowledge of switching/tagging procedures, electric utility equipment, protection/control functions, testing equipment/software, power system operations, information technology, SCADA, and state-of-the-art equipment monitoring technology.
Detailed knowledge of applicable work practices, procedures, safety requirements, and power system maintenance.
Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electrical technology, or equivalent discipline.
Associate degree in electrical engineering, electrical technology, or equivalent discipline with a minimum of seven (7) years of experience.
Degree requirements may be satisfied with relevant experience or supervisor training program completion.
Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of experience is required.
Experience in transmission and distribution systems is preferred.
Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
Licenses & Certifications:
Must hold a valid motor vehicle drivers’ license.
Working Conditions:
Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
Work is conducted outside, in varied conditions and terrain including adverse weather conditions, and in a normal office environment which requires sitting, walking, standing, stair climbing and completion of paperwork.
Drives to various job site locations and customer premises to supervise work, and review or discuss construction job requirements.
Off-hour on-call responsibility is required on a rotational basis.
