Role and Scope of Position:This position is responsible to oversee implementation of technical, safety, and regulatory training programs and curriculum for gas contractors. This position ensures all training programs, curriculum and instructional methods are developed in compliance with the Company’s safety policies and programs, as well as federal, state and regulatory laws and codes. This position also ensures classroom and field programs (On-the-Job-Training-OJT) are designed to develop the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities required for the safe and effective performance of field operations work and drives a performance-based culture. Works closely with Gas Operations and contractor management to make certain all training programs are aligned with field operational requirements.
Essential Functions:
- Provide guidance to Eversource Contractors on how to develop and maintain effective training programs in a regulated environment.
- Oversees implementation of technical, safety and regulatory training programs and curriculum for gas contractors to provide personnel with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform their jobs in a safe and qualified manner.
- Verifies all contractor field and classroom training is consistent with, and supports, Eversource operating and maintenance standards, processes, procedures and are in compliance with current federal, state and regulatory laws and codes.
- Collaborates and supports Gas Technical Training, Operator Qualification, Gas Field Training and other stakeholder departments to implement leading practices across Eversource and its contractor network.
- Researches, recommends and implements best practices for the contractor technical training programs and processes.
- Perform and document periodic reviews of contractor training programs for covered tasks and OQ Program Compliance.
- Perform and document periodic reviews of contractor facilities, tools and equipment used during performance evaluation.
- Perform and document periodic direct observations of Performance Evaluations (PE) and Computer Based Testing (CBT) at contractor facilities or other designated locations.
- Ensure evaluation methods are applied consistently for all contractor employees.
- Advises contractors on effective gas distribution classroom training activities, including training and compliance recordkeeping and reporting.
- Oversees the management and development of direct reports. Assesses the need for, and oversees implementation of, programs to ensure employees possess technical and behavioral skills required to support operating plans. Manages, selects, coaches and develops direct reports.
- Manages the prioritization of emergent work, and the planning and execution of the most effective and efficient training strategies and approaches that ensure the continuous learning of the organization.
- Communicates evolving regulatory requirements to contractor population as they pertain to training and Operator Qualifications.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
- Requires a working knowledge of all gas distribution network equipment and vehicles, work practices and procedures, construction and material standards, as well as safety, regulatory and design codes.
- Requires a demonstrated knowledge in training and development concepts, theories, practices and principals using a Systematic Approach to Training.
- Requires excellent written and oral communication, presentation and facilitation skills.
- Ability to use PC desktop applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Email).
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, related discipline or equivalent experience
- Advanced degree preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of ten (10) to twelve (12) years of energy delivery and gas utility operations experience preferred as well as experience in managing employee training activities
- Demonstrated experience in working and communicating across functional boundaries, interacting with a union workforce and process improvement
Licenses & Certifications:
- A valid state-issued driver’s license is required.
Working Conditions:
- Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
- Travel of approximately 60—70 % is required. Must be available to travel throughout the Northeast (primarily in CT/MA/NH).
- Work is performed primarily in an office and training lab environment which requires sitting, standing and general movement throughout the area. Job requires driving and traveling to service centers, contractor and field locations, and other utility system sites.
- This position is categorized as safety-sensitive for the purpose of drug testing. Successful applicants shall be subject to a pre-assignment drug test if the individual is currently in a non-safety sensitive position. As an employee in this position the individual shall be subject to random drug testing. A positive drug test will result in disciplinary action.

This role works in an environment that often requires the performance of multiple simultaneous activities, where deadlines need to be met, and work is performed under pressure while involving significant business commitments and results.
