Field Meter Mechanic I
01/22/2026Locations: Rochester, New Hampshire

Installs, removes, inspects, and tests all types of watthour meters and associated equipment. Installs and removes all types of portable meters and instruments. Analyzes data obtained from meters. Performs work without direct supervision.Starting Rate of Pay: $49.74 per hour
PRIMARY DUTIES
Installs and wires instrument transformers.
Installs and wires pulse recorder systems.
Analyzes instrument transformer connections.
Installs portable recording meters of all types and analyzes data
Tests and analyzes station watthour meter installations.
Completes necessary paperwork.
Directs work of Field Meter Mechanic II and III.
Performs duties of lower-rated jobs
Installs, wires, and tests Heat Smart Metering.
REQUIREMENTS
Training and Experience
1. Associate's degree in Industrial Electronics/Electricity or equivalent in combined related education and experience to include courses in basic electrical theory.
2. Completion of the on-the-job training of the Field Meter Mechanic Ill and Il which normally takes 30 months.
3. Additional courses in advanced math, trigonometry, vector analysis, helpful.
Knowledge/Skill
1. Understanding of and the ability to apply electrical theory.
2. Mechanical aptitude and manual and finger dexterity.
3. The ability to perform advanced math functions quickly and accurately (fractions, decimals, algebra, and trigonometry).
4. Perform highly accurate, detailed work, including the use of hand and power tools
5. The ability to read schematics, graphs and prints; operate and calibrate metering equipment; operate, interpret and repair all meter test instruments.
6. The ability to train and instruct others and communicate effectively with the public.
Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
