Distribution Mechanic Helper X
06/23/2025Locations: Norwalk, Connecticut
Individual will be responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of underground gas mains and services. This job entails physically demanding work including continuous standing, walking, bending, crouching, and stooping throughout the entire shift. Responsibilities will include working in a crew of 2-3 individuals.Principal Duties:
Remove, repair, replace and install various sizes and types of gas piping. Investigate and repair gas odor complaints. Operate various types of pavement breaking and road cutting equipment. Operation of backhoe and dump truck. Perform walking leak survey. Perform underground utility mark outs. Perform drilling and tapping various sizes and types if gas mains.
Starting Rate of Pay: $31.32 per hour
Minimum Requirements:
Education: HS Diploma or equivalent (GED)
Experience: 5 years of related experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Ability to operate a commercial motor vehicle which includes meeting the physical and qualification requirements, a DOT Medical Card. Able to wear a respirator, or self-contained breathing apparatus. Perform excavation duties, including the use of' pavement hacker and shovels, and access construction sites that are non-handicapped accessible Must be able to move and lift material weighing up to 60 lbs. Must be available to perform on-call emergency response duties.
Working Conditions:
Field Service: Exposure to environmental elements e.g., extreme heat, cold, exposure to confined spaces, solvents, cutting ails, epoxies, flammable gases, and nuisance dusts. Floor to knuckle lilting will be a job role.
This is a union represented position so anyone going into this position would be required to become a member of the union.
