The individual is part of a team which is responsible for the management and testing of all out-of-service electric meters and metering instruments for the served areas of Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. An EML Tester receives, ships, inspects, cleans, tests, programs, assembles, and services all associated meter devices and equipment in a lab environment. All records, including test results, shipping manifests, and documented issues are maintained in accordance with established and regulated protocols. Testing and verification are handled both visually and electrically in accordance with standards and procedures.
Individual tests electric meters at the Electric Meter Lab. Performs acceptance tests on new meters, accuracy tests on used meters - including tests requested by PURA and by the customer; time-load tests; and programming and resetting of meters. Processes and cleans used meters. Ability to operate a forklift. Performs storage and inventory tasks.
Training to reach full qualification is guided by a Time Merit Progression which is performed under varying levels of supervision. The ability to work independently, meticulously, and at a high level of productivity is required to meet both anticipated and unanticipated daily business needs.
PRIMARY DUTIES
1.Tests various meter types for accuracy and functionality.
2.Tests meter equipment and safety devices used by both the lab and field personnel.
3.Receives, creates, records, assembles, and fulfills orders for both primary and secondary meters and equipment.
4.Physically and visually inspects meters received.
5.Records and documents all test results and equipment conditions electronically as required.
6.Maintains, adjusts, and cleans test sets.
7.Performs checks and assures proper operation of all safety equipment.
8.Performs basic repairs or modifications to test equipment and its software.
9.Cleans and maintains lab facilities, floors, and equipment.
10.Issues electronic and manual shipping documents to various district locations and vendors.
11.Creates and catalogs documentation of meters and equipment, both physical and electronic for recordkeeping.
12.Enters meters and equipment information into databases.
13.Provides training and direction as a qualified tester for employees working under a Time Merit Progression.
14.Performs other related duties as assigned.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Responsible for proper adherence to company policies, operating instructions, and procedures. All work must be done in an honest and ethical manner, following company established best practices. Any requirements of a regulatory nature shall be understood, and compliance shall be always followed.
Position Requirements
1. High School diploma or equivalent.
2. Individual must pass the CAST test.
3. Will be required to fully complete a Time Merit Progression.
4. Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license with a proven safe driving record.
5. Honest and Ethical behavior, mechanical aptitude, manual and finger dexterity, ability to pay attention to detail, the ability to follow instructions, adhere to testing and regulatory standards, lift 50 lbs. and learn various computer systems.
6. After hire, must successfully pass forklift operator certification and be able to operate a forklift.
7. Working knowledge of personal computers.
8. Ability to communicate effectively and to follow and interpret instructions as required.
9. Willingness to work a reasonable amount of overtime when offered the opportunity to do so, travel and overnight accommodations may be required periodically.
10. Will have storm restoration and emergency assignments.
