Meter Repairer
10/02/2025Locations: Meriden, Connecticut
Individual will, under general supervision assisting others or working alone, perform operations associated with the testing, adjustment, repair, and installation of complex large gas meters including auto adjust high-volume and GT cartridges, telemetering devices, and instruments. Investigates high bill complaints. Reads commercial and industrial meters and correcting devices. Performs physical work both outdoors and indoors with materials, hand tools, and equipment pertinent to the job. Individual will unload, sort, store, and take inventory of meters, equipment, and devices. Builds large gas meters to specifications. Communicates effectively and professionally with customer complaints at all levels.Starting Rate of Pay: $44.70 per hour
Primary Duties:
- Programs, installs, and removes telemetering devices, instruments, electronic commercial ERTs, turbo correctors, auto adjust and GT meters.
- Builds Large Rotary Meters to specification.
- Loads/unloads, sorts, stores, and maintains inventory of meters and equipment.
- Reads commercial and industrial meters and performs related calculations.
- Works in both field and shop settings.
- Perform all other miscellaneous tasks/projects within classification as assigned.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certification:
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Three years gas experience required.
- Must have mechanical aptitude, manual and finger dexterity, ability to pay attention to details, and the ability to follow instructions, adhere to testing standards and learn various computer systems.
- Must successfully pass Forklift Operator Certification and be able to operate a forklift.
- Must be familiar with MS Windows based applications and data input.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to perform inspection of non-handicapped areas.
- Must be able to lift and move material weighing 50-75 lbs.
- Comfortable working independently or in team setting.
- Capable of performing physical labor for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to climb a ladder and work at heights.
- Working with flammable gas, exposure to cutting oils, normal environmental elements e.g., heat, cold, moderate noise, etc.
- Visual acuity must be sufficient to perform wiring tasks, including cable color-code discernment.
- The selected candidate must be available to work overtime when required.
Accountability:
Responsible for proper adherence to company policies, operating instructions, and procedures.
This is a union represented position so anyone going into this position would be required to become a member of the union.
