Senior Engineer, Transmission System Planning (Hybrid)
07/30/2025 Locations Manchester-NHPerforms as project leader and/or carries out assignments requiring mastery of subject matter, with extensive experience associated with planning transmission lines and substation facilities in an electric power system. Exhibits strong technical skills on the design of the electric power system. Represents the company on regional and national transmission committees regarding transmission planning matters, at the New England Power Pool (NEPOOL), North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC), New England Power Coordination Council (NPCC), Independent System Operators of New England (ISO-NE), and Regional Transmission Organizations.
This is a hybrid position. The first 3 months are in the office.
Essential Functions:
- Conducts adequacy assessments and develop options to meet delivery objectives with latitude for independent action and decision making. Identifies key technical issues and develops solutions
- Responsible to understand, interpret and apply industry and corporate transmission planning standards and the regulations of Federal, State and Local authorities
- Represents the department and the company on various industry related committees.
- Participates with other utilities and the planning staff of the Independent System Operator (ISO) in the preparation of regional transmission expansion studies
- Employs teamwork with engineers in System Planning, Transmission Asset Strategy, and engineers and operating personnel elsewhere in Electric Operations in performing analyses and providing technical support in planning and operational environments
- Plans, develops and collaborates in the implementation and management of the life cycle plan for transmission assets
- Communicates clearly and effectively verbally and in writing the results of analyses and action plan
- Contributes to the development of the budget for the Electric Operations through cost-effective programs and projects to meet customer and system needs
- Trains junior staff in technical analyses and procedures
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
- Demonstrated skill and experience in power systems analysis
- experience with TARA, PSSE, PSCAD
- Technical understanding of the parameters and functions of the operation of the power delivery system and power system theory
- Skill in working cross functionally
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electrical preferred.
- Advanced degree preferred
Experience:
- Five to eight years’ experience in fossil or nuclear generating station engineering or supervision
- Professional Engineer’s License preferred
Working Conditions:
- Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
