Eversource supports work-life balance by offering hybrid schedules for certain roles. Eligibility is based on job responsibilities, operational needs, nature of work and team dynamics. Current guidelines require employees to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the third day set by the employee and supervisor based on department needs. These guidelines apply to roles approved for remote work and are subject to change,  based on managerial discretion and work performance. All applicants must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.

Authorization to work in the United States is a precondition to employment in this position. Eversource will not sponsor candidates for work visas for this position.

The Operations Simulation Senior Engineer will provide engineering and technical expertise to support and maintain the Transmission Dispatch Training Simulator (DTS) in NH. Duties include identifying & resolving issues, implementing model changes, designing new processes including technology, preparing, and presenting new ideas to improve the business. Support will include using data engineering tools to update and maintain complex model databases in support of simulation, operation, and control and to model and diagnose data quality issues impacting the DTS applications. Responsibilities include responding to day-to-day needs of training staff and other end users to conduct simulation using the full range of applications. Critical part of the responsibilities includes diagnosing and debugging applications and database models to maintain high system availability.

Essential Functions: 

  • Maximizes the performance of the simulation systems to meet operational and training needs

  • Supports Trainers for their training material development for simulation systems and products

  • Coordinate’s simulation updates and improvements with EMS support and vendor staff to ensure the functionality and availability of the simulator is maintained

  • Monitors and evaluates potential enhancements / new products that enable full implementation of our Electric System models

  • Closely monitor performance; identify problems and implement solutions; ensure database is running at optimum speed and efficiency

  • Resolve problems and answer questions related to the simulation databases and platform environments

  • Research and recommend optimal design criteria; publish standards and work with development staff; standardize environment and improve efficiency amongst the three states

  • Coordinates with internal and external personnel in the acquisition, configuration, updating and utilization of simulation technology to support Eversource System Operations Training in NH

  • Provides input and assistance for the model build group

  • Analyze business and technical related needs and propose suitable solutions

  • Supports Dispatcher’s use of SCADA/EMS applications

  • Create snapshots based on Real-Time models

  • Create initial condition savecases to meet load/generation as needed for simulation exercises

  • Maintain non-simulated databases for simulation models

  • Evaluate operator tools/suggestions that can be incorporated in simulation

  • Maintain HDR database of Real-time events

  • Represents Eversource on various ISO-NE Task Forces or Committees as assigned

  • Self-motivated and have the desire to stay abreast of latest SCADA/EMS technologies relating to power system operations and control

  • The functions above represent the specific duties performed but do not exclude additional work assignments not listed.

Technical Knowledge / Skill/ Education / Licenses / Certifications:

Technical Knowledge / Skill

  • Knowledge of electric transmission and distribution system operations

  • Knowledge of functions of the various components that make up the Eversource electric transmission and distribution systems

  • Knowledge of Energy Management System (EMS), Distribution Management System (DMS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA). Outage Management System (OMS) and other operations support applications

  • Thorough knowledge of human performance and human error reduction tools

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Read and interpret electrical schematic diagrams

  • Communicate and work effectively with personnel at various levels within Eversource, ISO-NE, ISO-NE satellites, participant companies, non-utility generators and neighboring utilities

  • Understands, interprets and applies industry and corporate transmission planning standards and the regulations of federal, state and local authorities

  • Knowledge of the ICCP protocol used in the sharing of data between control centers

  • Skill in analyzing and solving complex problems; Solid troubleshooting and critical thinking skills will be required to support the DTS/SCADA/EMS

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with peers, teams, users, managers and vendors

  • Proficiency with Windows operating system and MS Windows applications is required

  • Detailed understanding of NERC reliability and cyber security (CIP) standards

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.

Licenses

  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

Experience

  • Five to eight (5 to 8 years) related experience is required. Engineering design experience preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.

  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

  • Depending on the specific nature of the engineering role, position may require occasional to significant travel by car. A valid driver’s license is required.

$125,680.00-$139,640.00
