Locations: Manchester, New Hampshire

Eversource supports work-life balance by offering hybrid schedules for certain roles. Eligibility is based on job responsibilities, operational needs, nature of work and team dynamics. Current guidelines require employees to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the third day set by the employee and supervisor based on department needs. These guidelines apply to roles approved for remote work and are subject to change,  based on managerial discretion and work performance. All applicants must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.

Please note: Authorization to work in the United States is a precondition to employment in this position. Eversource will not sponsor candidates for work visas for this position.

Responsible for the development, expansion, and design of the system and its equipment to meet the mission and objectives of the organization.  Responsible for civil, structural and site development designs and calculations for electrical substations and ensuring that the Eversource transmission and distribution systems are designed to high quality standards that provide customers with safe, reliable, competitively priced and environmentally sound electric service. This position shares accountability with peers in the strategy, development, and design of the organization’s comprehensive long-term plan for the transmission/distribution system.

Essential Functions: 

  • Must work well in a team setting and be willing to learn new skills. An ability to learn technical proficiency in a range of Civil Engineering principles is a requirement.

  • Understanding of, and ability to support site grading design, storm water management design, structure and foundation design, oil containment design, substation sanitary and water installations, and rigid bus analysis.

  • Assistance in the development and approval of project scopes, specifications, engineering designs, details, material ordering, and cost estimates.

  • Interface with Substation Engineering and Design to communicate the details of a proposed project and ensure all system additions, removals, and modifications are adequately designed for their safe use and maintenance. 

  • Communicate effectively with others, use computers effectively, and write clearly and concisely.

  • Accountable for root-cause analysis, development, and implementation of corrective actions.

  • Ability to develop conceptual site plans that address typical development needs such as storm water management, driveway/access road development, parking, snow storage, utility corridor access, etc. and to calculate quantities for estimating.

  • Conform to the project schedule including the detailed planning of successive construction phases to effectively implement the design while considering outage time and maintaining a realistic timeline.

  • Perform review of engineering vendor submittals and participate in meetings with vendors to discuss comments on submittals throughout the design and review process of a project.

  • Review all construction drawings and design documentation before being issued to construction contractor.

  • Ensure work is in accordance with Eversource standards and applicable Codes.

  • Ensure that the design and specification of additions, modifications and replacements to the transmission and distribution systems are completed accurately and in accordance with the schedule.

  • Provide Civil Engineering support of construction activities including resolution of all field questions and approval of any field generated change to the issued design.

  • Expected to assist with storm duty and any other major events

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Computer skills include Microsoft Office.

  • Any of the following additional software familiarity or proficiency will be beneficial. AutoCAD, MathCAD, RISA software (3D, Foundation, Base, Connection, and Foot), STAAD Pro, DS Anchor, L-Pile, PLS Tower, TNX Tower, Retain Pro, and HydroCAD.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required.

Experience:   

  • 3-5 years of civil/structural experience required, preferably in the electrical utility industry.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • PE License preferred, or with the ability obtain a NH PE license within 6 months of employment.

  • Valid driver’s license

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.

  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment which requires sitting, standing, walking and climbing stairs are involved.  

  • Job will require frequent substation site visits. A valid driver’s license is required.

$97,570.00-$108,410.00
