JOB DESCRIPTION:

Individual performs a wide variety of tasks including but not limited to installing, testing, repairing, and maintaining electrical transmission and distribution equipment of all types and voltage classes throughout the region. Such tasks include but are not limited to the installation of electrical equipment, such as transformers, metering equipment, station service equipment, bus work and other associated electrical equipment, wiring and installing switchboards, related control equipment and remote-control equipment, assisting in the operational analysis, trouble analysis and repair on electrical, electronic, and electromechanical equipment. The individual will also be able to operate bucket trucks, traveling cranes and a variety of power operated equipment. This position is one step in a multi-step progression. 

Starting Rate of Pay: $43.95 per hour

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), and an Associate Degree in Industrial Electricity, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology and/or the successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship program. 

The applicant must also have the ability to operate test equipment, hand, and power tools, interpret electrical drawings, work from elevated positions and within confined spaces, follow instructions and work under limited supervision. The applicant must have mechanical aptitude; manual and finger dexterity; and color distinction.

Basic computer skills.  

Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license, a Commercial Driver’s License (or the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License) with endorsements for Air Brakes, Hazardous Materials and Tank Vehicles, respirator clearance, and a DOT medical card. 

The applicant must also successfully complete the EEI CAST aptitude test.

Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) is preferred. 

The applicant must also have the ability to perform moderately heavy physical work outdoors in all seasons and at times for extended periods. 

This position is subject to the provisions of the Apprentice Substation Training Program (ASTP).  The ASTP provides effective and consistent training for System Electricians.  Employees in the program will be working and training on various projects in various locations throughout the state. ASTP participants will be part of a cohort of individuals who remain in the training program during a 24-month training period. After 24 months, employees will report to the specific region for which they have been hired, as a 24-month progressed System Electrician, for additional training and work experience. During the 24-month program, employees will work an 8-hour schedule from 7:00 a.m. through 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Employees may, upon mutual agreement with management, work a 4/10 schedule. The specific hours of a 4/10 schedule may vary upon mutual agreement and may occur at any time or frequency throughout the year.

During the 24-month training period, employees will use 1250 Hooksett Road, Hooksett, New Hampshire as a base reporting location. They may also, as deemed necessary by the Company, report to specific job sites from the Tilton AWC territory south to the New Hampshire/Massachusetts border and, from the Keene AWC territory easterly to the Portsmouth AWC territory. Such reporting will take place at 7:00 a.m. unless a reporting time change is mutually agreed upon.

Employees in the ASTP will not be compensated for any travel or lodging during the 24-month period related to participation in the program.

While employees are participating in the ASTP, they will not normally be eligible for overtime during the regular work week that would interfere with their normal training schedule.

Bargaining unit employees with rights to this posting will be given first consideration.
