Role and Scope of Position:The LNG Shift Trainee will ensure the Facility is safely, reliably, and efficiently operated during liquefaction and sendout seasons by performing the day-to-day operation functions of the Facility.
Responsible for completing all assigned on the job training as outlined in the LNG Shift Supervisor Qualification Checklist; with the goal of becoming a Fully Qualified LNG Shift Supervisor within one (1) year of being in this role. LNG Shift Trainees, by having successfully completed the LNG Shift Supervisor curriculum will be: qualified to perform all yard operations and will be qualified to instruct, train, and directly supervise LNG Yard Operators and. The LNG Shift Supervisor duties include but are not limited to control room DCS monitoring, LNG tank boil off operations, truck loading/unloading, general transfers, vaporization/sendout, and liquefier operations (startup, steady state operation, shutdown).
Essential Functions:
- Supports all Eversource Safety and Environmental initiatives.
- Operation of liquefaction, LNG storage boil off management, truck loading/offloading, and sendout operations.
- Represents the Company by acting as incident commander during emergencies.
- Understands and follows operational procedures.
- Controls plant startup and shutdowns.
- Completes and facilitates necessary training for operations staff.
- Ensures Eversource corporate requirements and policies are followed.
- Communicates effectively with plant supervision, coworkers, maintenance department, engineering departments, and outside contractors, as required.
- Understanding of regulatory compliance for Federal Energy Regulatory, Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection inspections.
- Assists in abnormal requests/repairs or emergency response after hours on an as-needed basis.
- Responsible for overall safety, environmental performance, and work delegation of crews and facility when on shift.
- Operates the LNG plant in compliance with the Code of Federal Regulations.
- Must be able to work rotating shift work schedule subject to changes according to Plant operating demands.
- Responsible for receiving, interpreting, and generating communications to and from Gas Control.
- Creates work permits.
- Will have responsibility for Fitness for Duty and Reasonable Suspicion decisions.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
- Keep accurate equipment logs and records.
- Ability to successfully complete all company sponsored trainings.
- Effective communication with different groups, including operations staff, maintenance staff, engineering departments, human resources, federal, state, and local regulators, external stakeholders, and other Eversource corporate groups.
- Ability to understand and implement operational procedures.
- Ability to understand and manage process control systems.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or Associate degree in engineering, relevant technical discipline or equivalent experience.
Experience:
- Three years of relevant operations experience and demonstrable/verifiable knowledge of mechanical equipment operations (i.e., compressors, pumps, instrumentation systems, control systems, etc.)
- Current Hopkinton Yard Operator One qualified individual.
- Operation of liquefaction, LNG storage boil off management, trucking/offloading, and vaporization (send-out) operation qualified
Licenses & Certifications:
- N/A
Working Conditions:
- Must be available to work emergency storm assignment as required.
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
- Must be physically able to perform the required duties which include but are not limited to: climb ladders, platforms, staircases, and other physical obstacles including the LNG storage tank (Over 120 feet high) necessary to safely navigate the Facility; work in elevated and confined spaces; lifting; assist with general plant maintenance; and perform snow removal and other work in inclement weather conditions including extreme heat and cold.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- The Facility consists of three 1 BCF LNG storage tanks, a 240 MMSCFD sendout system, and is in the process of installing a brand-new state-of-the-art liquefaction and pretreatment system capable of liquefying up to 21 MMSCFD.
