The IT Senior Analyst, Firewall Operations is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations, monitoring, and maintenance of Eversource’s network firewalls. This role works closely with internal teams and third-party vendors to ensure firewall performance, security, and compliance. The position is ideal for a technically skilled professional with a strong foundation in firewall technologies and a desire to grow into a leadership role.
Essential Functions:
- Monitor and maintain firewall systems to ensure optimal performance and security.
- Assist in implementing firewall changes and configurations in accordance with established policies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve firewall-related connectivity issues in collaboration with IT teams and end users.
- Support the review and documentation of firewall rules and policies.
- Participate in incident response and root cause analysis for firewall-related events.
- Contribute to process improvements and automation initiatives.
- Maintain awareness of emerging threats and technologies in the firewall and network security space.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, technical designs, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Review and validate security related Change Control requests.
- Provide off-hours support for operational issues as needed.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
- Working knowledge of firewall technologies (Palo Alto, Checkpoint preferred).
- Familiarity with security protocols such as TCP/IP, IPSec, NAT, and ACLs.
- Understanding of VPNs and basic network security principles.
- Exposure to DDoS protection technologies (e.g., Arbor, Akamai) is a plus.
- Experience with firewall monitoring and policy management tools (e.g., Algosec, SolarWinds) is desirable.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Effective communication and documentation abilities.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in firewall operations, network security, or a related IT infrastructure role.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Security or Networking certifications are a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
