Director - SEC External Reporting & Research

The Director, SEC External Reporting and Research is responsible for leading the preparation and submission of all external financial reports, including those required by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards, with a strong emphasis on the unique financial and regulatory environment of the utilities industry. This position also is responsible for the research and resolution of complex accounting matters, presentation and issues as they arise in the normal course of business.

Eversource supports work-life balance by offering hybrid schedules for certain roles. Eligibility is based on job responsibilities, operational needs, nature of work and team dynamics. Current guidelines require employees to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the third day set by the employee and supervisor based on department needs. These guidelines apply to roles approved for remote work and are subject to change, based on managerial discretion and work performance. All applicants must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.

Essential Functions: 

  • Oversee the drafting of SEC reports, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and other required disclosures, for Legal review and filing.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with regulatory teams to align financial reporting with utility-specific regulatory compliance obligations.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in accounting standards, SEC regulations, and industry-specific guidance; assess impact and implement necessary changes.
  • Maintain and continuously improve accounting policies for the Eversource organization and related subsidiaries.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external auditors to support quarterly and annual audits.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of internal controls over financial reporting, particularly in areas impacted by rate regulation and utility operations.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance for complex transactions, including rate cases, asset retirement obligations, and regulatory assets/liabilities.
  • Partner with internal groups including Investor Relations, Legal, and Regulatory to ensure consistency and accuracy in public disclosures.
  • Lead the preparation of materials, summaries and presentations to the Eversource Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees.
  • Manage and mentor a team of reporting professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, SOX compliance, FERC and state regulatory accounting requirements.
  • Experience in the utility industry or other regulated industries strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with financial systems such as Oracle, SAP, PowerPlan and OneStream, or similar platforms.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proven leadership and team management capabilities.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s strongly preferred.                   

Experience:     

  • 12or more years of progressive experience in accounting and financial reporting, including SEC reporting; Big 4 public accounting experience preferred.          

Licenses & Certifications:

  • CPA strongly preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

$179,550.00-$199,500.00
