2026 Summer Safety Analyst Intern
09/14/2025 Locations Berlin-CT Role and Scope of Position:
Under the direction of a Manager or Senior Analyst, a Safety Intern will assist in creating and maintaining Safety metrics, reporting and analysis to enable leadership with Safety decision support information needed to meet their goals. Participates in Safety Information Management Systems (SIMS) and Safety Metrics improvement projects. Works collaboratively with other team members and departments on routine projects (e.g., CPM, Pipeline Safety, Leave Admin)
OSHA:
Supports the Corporate safety policies and programs through the administration of the processes and tools related to incident reporting, investigations, analysis and assessment. Works closely with safety and workers compensation functions, and line employees to ensure each incident is properly categorized, the appropriate data is obtained and stored, and all final documentation is collected, warehoused and distributed in compliance with federal and state regulations.
Essential Functions:
- Assists in preparing analysis and reports summarizing incidents and reflecting safety related trends.
- Assists with the communication of safety policies and procedures, as well as injury and incident information to managers, supervisors and employees.
- Remains current with all pending legislation, enacted Safety laws and federal and state regulations.
- Develops skills and training for associate and analyst level staff.
- Learns about the SIMS database, creates customizations, as required, optimizes functions, designs reporting, trouble-shoots issues and serves as the interface between IT and Enablon.
- Assists in designing, building and maintaining performance reporting processes to assure up-to-date performance results are available for business use throughout the year.
- Collects performance data and information from a variety of sources and keeps all data collection tools organized and updated throughout the year. Reviews and assures data quality on a regular basis, taking steps to correct data or processes as needed.
- Creates new data collection models and processes to establish metrics. Assures the most streamlined approaches to minimize manual processes and duplicative work.
- Prepares data, presentations, reports or information as needed to assist business improvement initiatives, respond to regulatory requests for information, as input to business decision making and for the goals & budget development processes. May include repackaging existing information and/or creating new, ad hoc reports or tools.
- Conducts research to identify best practices and performance comparisons. Involves utilizing existing/available benchmarking opportunities from external parties and creating new Company-sponsored surveys. Outreaches to benchmarking partners at other utilities or industries. Locates, validates and inputs Company data and information into surveys, and creates presentations and analytics as part of comparative assessments used in communicating the results of research or surveys.
- Proactively learns about the company, industry and the business areas being support in order to understand, validate and communicate performance results and progress of business initiatives.
- Assists in OSHA recordkeeping through coordination of the collection, maintenance, retention and dissemination of all safety incident data.
- Reviews the type and level of each incident and ensures it is properly categorized and recorded within both electronic and hard copy files in compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Ensures the appropriate information for each incident is communicated to the proper line organization and that all records, documents, investigative material and final reports are collected and properly retained for future study and audits.
- Assists analysts in coordination with workers’ compensation representatives to ensure all documentation, pertinent to the management of a work-related incident, such as supervisor reports and post incident investigations, is forwarded to Leave Admin in support of the workers’ compensation claim management process.
- Ensures all safety incident data is consistent and aligned with information from other Company organizations, and that the proper reports are filed on a timely basis with the federal and state agencies as required.
- Assists in monthly and annual reconciliation and reporting of work-related injuries and illnesses in compliance with OSHA regulations (OSHA Form 300/300A) and their inclusion in organizational metrics.
- Presents to Safety Leadership periodically reporting on their Cohort Program progress.
Qualifications:
Technical Knowledge:
- Possesses a basic knowledge and willingness to learn federal and state safety regulations such as OSHA, DOT and Departments of Public Safety.
- Working knowledge of Excel, Power BI, database querying and reporting and standard MS office applications.
- Requires good oral and written communication and human relation skills.
- Requires the ability to design, build, analyze and interpret data models (relational tables or databases), ability to use standard business reporting software to build and modify reports and databases (heavy emphasis on advanced Excel) and in using data from a data warehouse or other database.
- Must be able to identify and ensure data quality and accuracy.
- Strong mathematics capabilities, conceptual/analytics capabilities,
- Advanced Excel & reporting tools skills, process analysis tools use.
- Key skills are in understanding and using data to measure and explain performance, extracting and analyzing data, working with IT systems, developing analytics, collaborating with others, communicating in a business setting with all levels of management,
Education:
- BA/BS in Business Administration, Management Information Systems, related discipline or equivalent experience
Experience:
- Minimum of one (1) plus years of experience in operational activities.
Licenses & Certification:
- Valid Class D Driver’s License.
Working Conditions:
- Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH, as necessary.

- Work includes analyzing, implementing and coordinating.
- This role works in an environment that often requires the performance of multiple simultaneous activities, where deadlines need to be met and work is performed under pressure while involving significant business commitments and results.
