Manager - Accounting Research and Policies (Hybrid)

Responsible for leading the accounting research function, which also includes the maintenance of all accounting policies and certain corporate policies that include accounting matters. This role interfaces with the external auditor on ensuring that we apply the correct accounting to material, judgmental accounting matters, including but not limited to complex contracts, new and/or unusual transactions, and regulatory outcomes. The resources in this group will also assist with peak time financial reporting responsibilities, as needed - usually at year end.
This is a hybrid role. The first three months are fulltime in the office.
Essential Functions
- Develops and implements departmental policies as they relate to the accounting research function.
- Manages the staff of the research and policy’s function.
- Reviews complex transactions for applicable accounting guidance and coordinates with personnel initiating the transaction: Energy Efficiency, Tax, FP&A, Financial Reporting, and others.
- Manages the process to obtain agreement from our external auditors on our accounting for complex transactions.
- Manages the implementation of new accounting guidance from FASB, the SEC, and FERC.
- Manages the review, updating, and publication of accounting policies and corporate policies owned by the Chief Financial Officer.
- Manages the review process, approval, and storage of accounting research documents.
- Manages resources loaned to the Financial Reporting group during peak work times for Financial Reporting
Qualifications
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), standard accounting policies, procedures, and practices
- Knowledge of utility accounting theory
- Thorough knowledge of Accounting Standard Codifications and the Uniform System of Accounts of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
- Knowledge and experience with financial statement preparation
- Knowledge and experience with financial management procedures and techniques
Other Preferred Knowledge:
- Knowledge of SEC reporting rules and regulations
Skills:
- Ability to effectively lead, manage and develop a diverse workforce.
- Extensive resourcefulness to anticipate, define and direct solutions to complex and/or unusual accounting, finance and/or regulatory issues related to the business area.
- Extensive analytical skills, including the ability to draw sound conclusions and act decisively.
- Ability to think and act strategically in a fast-paced environment with frequently shifting and/or conflicting priorities.
- Strong team membership as well as team building skills.
- Strong customer focus.
- Spoken and written communication skills.
- Ability to institute, where applicable, current best practices
- Ability and willingness to initiate and manage change as needed.
- Strong functional understanding of computerized business systems
- Demonstrated skill with MS Office applications.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or closely related field required.
- CPA designation is preferred.
Experience:
- Ten (10) plus years of related, equivalent experience required which includes managerial, supervisor and/or team leadership experience.
Licenses & Certifications:
- CPA preferred.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $153,000 - $170,000 plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Check out the career site for an overview of benefits.
