The Manager, Grid Operations Technology is responsible for leading the planning, development, implementation, and ongoing support of operational technology (OT) systems that enable safe, reliable, and efficient distribution system operations. This role oversees Distribution Management Systems (DMS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS), and related control center technologies.
The position provides strategic and technical leadership across real-time operations, grid modernization initiatives, and system modeling, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., DPU, PURA, PUC), alignment with corporate objectives, and delivery of long-term business value across the three-state service territory.

Essential Functions: 

  • Plan, schedule, and manage engineering and technical resources responsible for DMS, SCADA, and DERMS model development, maintenance, and validation.

  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of transmission and distribution system models, including daily oversight of distribution models from GIS extraction through build and validation.

  • Provide operating support and maintenance for control center applications, displays, front-end processors, and communications infrastructure.

  • Coordinate outage applications and real-time operational requirements with ISO-NE and internal System Operations teams.

  • Lead design and execution of grid modernization initiatives related to operational technology platforms.

  • Serve as business product owner for DMS, SCASA, DERMS and other key OT platforms, overseeing configuration, enhancements, system upgrades, and roadmap alignment.

  • Develop and maintain OT product roadmaps to enable advanced control room capabilities, including Volt/VAR Optimization (VVO), Fault Location Isolation and Service Restoration (FLISR), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and other advanced applications.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies, conduct cost-benefit analyses, and recommend long-term investment strategies to maximize operational and customer value.

  • Assist in establishing goals, policies, standards, budgets, and performance objectives for electric system operations technology.

  • Develop technology deployment plans to expand, upgrade, and enhance OT portfolios in response to evolving business and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure preparation of technical documentation, regulatory filings, written responses, presentations, and expert testimony as required across all jurisdictions.

  • Coordinate development, testing, and maintenance of software tools that support real-time operations and post-event system analysis.

  • Provide seasonal and operational analysis models for System Operations, including load and generation forecasting.

  • Support control center simulator systems and ensure readiness for training and emergency preparedness.

  • Lead evaluation and design of telemetry and communications architectures supporting field devices and remote terminal units (RTUs).

  • Direct and develop supervisors, engineers, technicians, and consultants; manage staffing, performance, coaching, and professional development.

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture focused on accountability and continuous improvement.

  • Lead and participate in cross-functional teams with IT, Operations, Engineering, Planning, and external partners.

  • Act as a thought leader and subject matter expert in industry forums and peer utility collaborations.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Thorough knowledge of transmission and distribution system operations and real-time control room environments.

  • Strong understanding of EMS, DMS, SCADA, OMS, DERMS, and related communications and control systems.

  • Solid grounding in electrical engineering concepts and working knowledge of telecommunications technologies.

  • Strong analytical, strategic planning, and decision-making skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership, project management, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including executive-level presentations.

  • Customer-focused mindset with the ability to lead change and drive results.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Electric Power Systems preferred), Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or related discipline.

  • Advanced degree (MS in Engineering or MBA) preferred.                                  

Experience:      

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in transmission and/or distribution system operations, engineering, or operational technology.

  • Proven managerial, supervisory, or team leadership experience.

  • Experience working within or supporting an electric utility system operations control room preferred.

  • Experience delivering large-scale technology or IT/OT transformation initiatives preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.

  • Must be available to respond personally and manage staff to respond to operational issues outside of normal working hours.

  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

$162,880.00-$180,980.00
