Role and Scope of Position:Provides guidance and oversight for all environmental field response activities involving releases of Oil & Hazardous Material (OHM) and Asbestos Abatement for Electric & Gas Operations activity across New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut. Leads team of Supervisors and Environmental Coordinators across the 3-State area of Electric & Gas Distribution Operations to ensure oil and hazardous material release & asbestos abatement compliance, compliance for electric power distribution substations.
Coordinates with Procurement to acquire best qualified / lowest cost vendors for OHM Spill Response, Waste Management & Asbestos Abatement. Also drives high-level, companywide initiatives including PCB-transformer removal in close coordination with Eversource Electric Operations leadership.
HYBRID WORK POLICY
Eversource supports work-life balance by offering hybrid schedules for certain roles. Eligibility is based on job responsibilities, operational needs, nature of work and team dynamics. Current guidelines require employees to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the third day set by the employee and supervisor based on department needs. These guidelines apply to roles approved for remote work and are subject to change, based on managerial discretion and work performance. All applicants must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.
Essential Functions:
- Works closely with Compliance state regulators in CT, MA & NH (CTDEEP, MADEP & NHDES), as well as federal EPA, to foster a spirit of cooperation and good relations regarding Emergency Response Actions to OHM release events and Asbestos Management.
- Tracks & Reports monthly metrics. Provides Electric & Gas Operations Field Staff training. Also prepares compliance guidelines & policy for OHM spill response, asbestos abatement & Spill Prevention, Countermeasure and Control Plans (SPCC).
- Supports Director as lead for environmental storm activity when the company activates its Emergency Response Plan (ERP) during storms and other events that could disrupt Energy Transmission & Distribution (T&D). This includes preparation of written plans, coordination of OHM Spill Teams, coordination of facility & staging area compliance teams, vehicle wet-fueling compliance, staging area inspections, and reporting EAD ERP Status to Management.
- Assists Business Continuity Planning (BCP) coordinator in preparation and potential execution of plans that ensure continued company function and energy distribution in the event of work force reduction due to events, work stops or illness.
- Provides cross-functional support to other Groups including: Remediation, Licensing & Permitting (L&P), and Compliance & Performance (C&P). Works on cross functional development and updates on environmental procedures.
- Manages OHM spill response work and Asbestos Abatement - including reporting, vendor management, and administrative record keeping. Ensures strict compliance with federal and state rules and maintains excellent relationships with regulators.
- Works closely with Environmental Remediation Manager to support work upon request as resources allow on reserve site management and real estate assessments.
- Develops and implements plans to ensure outstanding customer service and safety practices. Demonstrates sound judgment and decision making, including under fast paced timelines. Demonstrates strong ethical standards and leadership qualities.
- Fosters team work and collaboration.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Knowledge:
- Demonstrated working knowledge of federal and state rules related to OHM spill response, cleanup, waste management, and asbestos abatement in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or related field; Masters’ degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or related field preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of ten (10) or more years of utility environmental experience (in either industry or consulting) including 5 or more years managing/overseeing environmental professionals.
Licenses & Certifications:

Working Conditions:
- Fast paced working environment with multiple projects and stakeholders.
- EFR group provides 24/7 spill and storm support. Selected candidate must be available and willing to respond to on-call demands.
- Must be available to work emergency storm assignment as required.
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

- Due to the fast-paced environment of field response, issues arise that require immediate attention and resolution. Many issues are complex and will require assessment against regulatory requirements with Environmental Affairs leadership and legal counsel. Sound judgment, strong regulatory experience and quick decision making required.
