POSITION: Working Leader - Distribution
LOCATION: Springfield, MA
DEPARTMENT: Gas Distribution
PAY RATE: $56.76 per hour

JOB SUMMARY:
The Working Leader in Gas Distribution is responsible for assuring that all construction and maintenance work done under their direction is performed in accordance with Company, State and Federal regulations as described in the Gas Operating and Maintenance procedures. Also responsible for directing onsite job safety in accordance with Company standards. The Working Leader will be assigned to a crew of two (2) or more (including the Working Leader).
DUTIES:
Responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing and modifying gas services and mains.
Instructs, provides on-the-job training and directs all personnel working on the assigned crew.
Works in construction areas with water, sewer, highway, telephone and electric personnel; performs emergency Dig Safe pre-marks and verifies accuracy of mark outs on planned jobs. Makes on-the-job decisions such as pinpointing leaks and emergency mark-outs of gas facilities and repairs that are in the best Company interest.
Completes all required timesheets, activity reports, sketches and other records for each assigned project.
Attends weekly scheduling meetings, as necessary.
Ensures that all installations, retirements and repairs are completed in accordance with the latest Company standards and specifications.
Directs on-the-job safety; responsible for personnel safety, jobsite setup in accordance with Company safety standards and the safe operation of all vehicles and equipment; responsible for conducting daily jobsite briefing.
Ensures that all tools and equipment are in good working condition and that crew vehicles are properly equipped and stocked with sufficient materials to complete the assigned project.
Performs work of a lower classification and any other duties pertinent to the classification as required.
Call Out Duties
Responds to call-out situations as directed by on-call supervisor.
Directly supervises repair.
Completes Activity Report and Timesheets.
Submits paperwork to on-call supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work in this classification is performed both indoors and outdoors, as is the current practice, dependent on the work assignment. Work is performed on Company and customer premises, in streets, roadways and in right-of-ways, in variable weather conditions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Technical Knowledge/Skills/Education/Licenses/Certifications: (What do incumbents need to know to competently perform the role?)
Qualified applicants must have a minimum of three years Gas Distribution experience.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Must meet ongoing DOT regulations for random Drug and Alcohol testing
Pass DOT physical and maintain required certifications
Must meet the Company's driver's test requirements and possess and maintain a Class A Massachusetts driver's license or be willing to train and obtain license within six months from assignment to the classification.
Vacancies will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Residency requirement: must live in Springfield service territory per Labor Agreement.
Must pass Company approved EEI testing (CAST)
SCHEDULE
Monday through Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. Schedule is subject to change in accordance with the Labor Agreement.
