Eversource supports work-life balance by offering hybrid schedules for certain roles. Eligibility is based on job responsibilities, operational needs, nature of work and team dynamics. Current guidelines require employees to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the third day set by the employee and supervisor based on department needs. These guidelines apply to roles approved for remote work and are subject to change, based on managerial discretion and work performance. All applicants must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.






Role and Scope of Position:
The Senior Engineer will work with complex systems and equipment, while providing engineering and technical services to support our growing organization. We offer a unique and exciting opportunity to explore the best of both worlds, working both in the office and the field on a variety of interesting projects. Areas of expertise include designing new substations and infrastructure, analyzing systems and disruptions to service, working with transformers, engineering the electrical protection and control circuits that handles the flow of power, and dealing with acceptance testing of equipment, failures of equipment and analysis of system disturbances.

Role and Scope of Position: 

Position Summary

This position provides technical engineering support for Transmission and Distribution substation equipment. The Senior Engineer will independently perform engineering analyses, review diagnostic and test reports, and provide technical engineering guidance related to equipment condition, maintenance, and reliability, including the administration and support of oil sampling, testing, and analysis programs with applied engineering judgment to identify abnormal conditions, trends, and potential risks. The role supports and contributes technical input to engineering projects, including the integration of online monitoring technologies for substation assets, and serves as a technical resource to operations, maintenance, and engineering teams while collaborating with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure data accuracy, effective asset management, and reliable operation of critical substation equipment. In addition, this position contributes to maintenance and asset strategies, supports emergency response activities, and assists in the continuous improvement of analytical methods, reporting tools, and engineering support processes. 

Essential Functions

  • Provide engineering support for Transmission and Distribution substation equipment, including transformers, breakers, switches, and other equipment supporting system operations and maintenance. 

  • Provide technical support for new and existing projects for the integration of online monitoring systems into substation assets. 

  • Review and evaluate test reports and provide technical engineering guidance for substation battery systems. 

  • Administration of oil sampling, testing, and analysis program(s) including purchase order development, invoicing, and resource tracking. 

  • Ensure all analyses, reports, and data tracking are completed with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail. 

  • Interfaces directly with internal customers and external vendors on analysis results and resolving data, tracking, and invoicing issues. 

  • Manage emergency oil analysis equipment and procedures during substation emergencies. 

  • Assists with the development of strategy, operating philosophy, and technical basis for the emergent maintenance and/or replacement of Transmission and Distribution substation assets. 

  • Perform analyses and produce customized reports on substation equipment for customers, key stakeholders, and management. 

  • Receive, research, and answer inquiries from various internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Collaborate effectively with others, including employees within the Engineering and Station Operations organizations, to ensure consistency and teamwork. 

  • Lead special department and company assignments and/or programs as required. 

  • Participate in storm restoration and emergency duty assignments.  

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Knowledge of utility power systems is preferred

  • Ability to independently develop, present and execute new projects through collaborations with other departments.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and ensure data integrity. 

  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and maintain precision in all tasks. 

  • Working knowledge of transmission and distribution assets with a focus on oil-filled substation equipment.  

  • Ability to create ad hoc reports from databases as requested.  

  • Ability to recognize problems and discrepancies with financial/accounting information and take appropriate action(s). 

  • Understand the use of various monitoring and testing equipment with associated  software applications.

  • Strong understanding of the use of various computer software applications including: MS Work, Excel, PI, Doble, PowerPoint, Terminal Emulators, and Cascade

Key Competencies:

  • Attention to Detail – Maintains accuracy in data analysis, reporting, and documentation. 

  • Analytical Thinking – Identifies inconsistencies and resolves issues effectively. 

  • Organizational Skills – Manages multiple priorities without compromising quality. 

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required. BSEE degree preferred.

Experience:   Five (5) years related experience is required for the senior engineer level.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.

  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.

  • Depending on the specific nature of the engineering role, position may require occasional to significant travel by car. A valid driver’s license is required.
