Associate Engineer, Transmission Line Engineering

Role and Scope of Position:The Associate Engineer will work with complex systems and equipment, while providing engineering and technical services to support our growing organization. We offer a unique and exciting opportunity to explore the best of both worlds, working both in the office and the field on a variety of interesting projects. Areas of expertise include designing new substations and infrastructure, analyzing systems and disruptions to service, working with transformers, engineering the electrical protection and control circuits that handles the flow of power, and dealing with acceptance testing of equipment, failures of equipment and analysis of system disturbances.
This position will support the engineering, design, construction, maintenance and operation of Transmission Lines on the Eversource System in NH. This requires familiarity with relevant design theories, codes and software packages. Specific duties include: design of overhead and underground transmission lines and supporting structures (e.g. poles, foundations, duct banks), technical analysis (e.g. clearance evaluations, ampacity calculations), development of documentation for and participation in regulatory and siting processes (e.g. creation of drawings, reports, cost and material estimates, interrogatory responses), field support during construction of new or maintenance of existing lines and other duties as required. This new position will report to an engineering lead to begin a process of training throughout the OH group. This will begin a process of knowledge transfer throughout the group and help better manage workload by improving flexibility.
Essential Functions:
Support of Capital Investment Program:
Support in drafting documents for the initiation of projects including estimates, project justifications and scopes, full project initiation submittals, drawings, photographs, etc.
Support of the design of overhead transmission lines using PLS-CADD and other associated software.
Development of siting and permitting technical details and representing Eversource as the technical voice for the system solution (e.g. public presentations forum discussions, etc.).
Development and oversight of design details, specifications, material lists and drawing packages to be issued for procurement of transmission materials and construction of transmission infrastructure.
Support the documentation of newly constructed Transmission Line facilities.
Support of Maintenance and Operations groups at Eversource Energy:
Support the maintenance and operation of Transmission Line facilities on the Eversource System with engineering analysis
Review external uses of Eversource rights-of-way against Eversource Standards
Analyze data from the field about the condition of Transmission Line Assets and provide technical guidance regarding replacement and/or remediation.
Assist other organizations within Eversource with information and guidance regarding transmission facilities. These groups can include (but are not limited to): Plant Accounting, Transmission Asset Management, Real Estate, Legal, Regulatory Policy & Planning, Governmental Affairs, Customer Service, etc.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
Knowledge of Transmission Line & Engineering civil, structural and electrical concepts
Familiarity with Transmission Line construction techniques
Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (“NESC”), the Massachusetts DPU Code (per Chapter 220, Commonwealth of Massachusetts Regulations Section 125) and various design standards (IEEE, CIGRE, ICEA, AEIC, IEC).
Knowledge of the guidance in AISC Steel Manual, ACI Building Code and Commentary, and ASTM material testing requirements.
Familiarity with PLS-CADD and its associated suite of software products, Microsoft Office, SAG10, L-Pile, MathCAD, Pull Planner 4.0, USAmp, CYMCAP, MATLAB, FEA/COMSOL.
A combination of strong technical knowledge and business acumen.
Understanding of the Federal and New England Regulatory environment and the impact for the Transmission Business.
Ability to interpret and analyze financial documents.
Working knowledge of information technology and use of Eversource’s office automation and information systems.
Ability to enhance internal and external customer satisfaction.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to make formal presentations and translate technical information into terms that are meaningful to the audience.
Ability to develop and use collaborative relationships to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering., Civil or Mechanical preferred.
Experience:
- 0-3 years related experience is required. Engineering design experience preferred.

Working Conditions:
- Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
- Depending on the specific nature of the engineering role, position may require occasional to significant travel by car. A valid driver’s license is required.
