Come join our team in Project Solutions within the Business and Quality Assurance organization that supports all aspects of the Eversource project lifecycle process for electric transmission and distribution. Project Solutions supports the project development process and Eversource capital initiatives towards the end goal of improving system reliability for our customers.

The Lead Engineer within Project Solutions is responsible for leading a diverse department team. This position shares accountability with peers in the strategy, development, and design of the organization’s Life Cycle Plan, a comprehensive long-term plan for the transmission/distribution system. Responsible for supervising the review of proposed projects including infrastructure upgrades to Eversource substations, underground transmission and overhead transmission systems.


These upgrades may include these categories of work:
• Major Substation Equipment; transformers, circuit breakers, etc.
• Protection and Controls
• SCADA and Communication
• XLPE and Fluid-Filled Underground Cables
• Overhead transmission structures, conductor, insulators, lightning arrestors and static wire
• Civil and Environmental construction in support electrical upgrades
• QA/QC review of project technical scope, cost and schedule information
• Ensure proposed projects have clear and thoroughly documented justification for their proposed customer investments.

Essential Functions:
• This is a hybrid position and will lead department operations with a key focus on resource management, department workload management and prioritization, internal customer interaction and support, assurance of department quality control.
• Supports the overall project lifecycle process across engineering, finance, project management, siting, transmission and distribution operations, system planning, engineering, asset management, cost estimating, etc., to maximize efficiency and quality assurance.
• Supports the Eversource Project Approval Committee (EPAC).
• Supports the Solution Design Committee (SDC).
• Identifies and implements process improvement initiatives related to project lifecycle, EPAC and SDC.
• Supports development and maintenance of department tools which manage project authorization through the technical and financial approval process, ensuring timely handoffs and management through Powerplan.
• Establishes, track, review and report of KPIs, coordinating with Project Controls, Engineering, Major Projects, Compliance, Siting, Construction and Siting Services etc.
• Supplement department individual contributor roles as required.
• Supports competency development in emerging transmission competitive environment as it relates to project solution development.

Essential Functions: 

  • Supervises, coaches, and develops engineers; approves time and conducts performance reviews.  Assigns, prioritizes and directs work performed Engineers, Reviewers and Analyst.
  • Responsible for the cost and performance of certain assets on the system which may include reliability analysis and trending of system events and monitoring of equipment condition.
  • Responsible for the development, justification and approval of the Life Cycle Plan activities over a multi-year horizon and for ongoing projects
  • Ensures that the design and specification of additions, modifications and replacements to the transmission and distribution systems, and the preparation of system electrical permits and related customer notifications, are completed accurately and on time.
  • Responsible for the development of preliminary engineering designs and the details, as necessary.
  • Collaborates with other Engineers within Engineering to ensure consistency and teamwork.
  • Provides technical support and direction to operating areas relative to system priorities, engineering guidelines and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations.
  • Accountable for root-cause analysis, development and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Responsible for the evaluation and selection of technology and equipment for the system.
  • Responsible for the development of standards and procedures for design, operation and maintenance.
  • Assumes the role of the Manager as required.
  • Expected to assist with storm duty and any other major events.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Knowledge of utility power systems is preferred.
  • Ability to independently develop, present and execute new projects through collaborations with other departments.
  • Familiarity with power related software is preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred. Substation knowledge is a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum of eight years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry.  Supervisory experience preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment which requires sitting, standing, walking and climbing stairs are involved.  Job can require traveling to operating districts and companies within and outside the state.
  • Depending on the specific nature of the engineering role, position may require occasional to significant travel by car. A valid driver’s license is required.

$145,670.00-$161,860.00
