2026 Summer IT Intern, Cloud Engineering

Role and Scope of Position:Under direct supervision, assists with implementing policies for the use of cloud services, managing requests for new technology, establishing a secure cloud environment, working with cloud architects to implement technical designs, and ensuring appropriate availability of services, also known as uptime.
The Cloud Engineer Intern will assist the team with day‑to‑day cloud operations and engineering activities. This role is intended for candidates who are eager to learn cloud technologies and gain hands‑on experience in an enterprise environment. The intern will support tasks such as provisioning and managing cloud resources, assisting with virtual machine requests, monitoring cloud environments, documenting processes, and supporting automation and CI/CD pipelines under the guidance of senior cloud engineers. The role will also provide exposure to cloud security, compliance practices, and Agile/ART ways of working.
This internship will help build a strong talent pipeline while providing additional bandwidth to the team for operational and project‑based work.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborates with engineering and development teams to evaluate and identify optimal cloud solutions
- Assists with the modification and improvement of existing systems.
- Assists with training teams on implementation of new technologies and initiatives.
- Identifies, analyzes, and resolves infrastructure vulnerabilities and application deployment issues.
- Maintains and supports Eversource’s cloud infrastructure, specifically Azure.
- Works with tier 2 and 3 teams on any escalations for support related items.
- Optimizes Cloud infrastructure for efficiency.
- Works with Cloud Architects to deliver IaaS and PaaS using Azure.
- Ensures Cloud resources are kept up to date with latest security patches and best practices.
- Maintains security for infrastructure per guidelines for a regulated company.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
- Demonstrates knowledge of and supports each entity's mission and vision, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality guidelines and code of ethical behavior.
Some understanding of cloud computing technologies. Optionally, demonstrated hands on experience in one or more of the following:
- Core IaaS: Compute, Storage, Networking, High Availability
- Data Platform and Bigdata: SQL Server, Azure SQL DB, Azure Synapse, Machine Learning, Azure Data Factory
- Azure PaaS Services: Redis Cache, Service Bus, Event Hub, Azure AppService and Functions
- Azure Networking: Virtual networks, routing, and virtual network paring
- Identity and Authentication: AD/Azure
- Preferred but not required: Cosmos DB, Azure Kubernetes Service
- Experience in one or more automation languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash) is a plus
- Experience in Infrastructure as Code leveraging Terraform/ARM
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in computer science, related technical discipline or related experience.
Experience:
- Zero to 1 or three years in a technical background with a core focus in either infrastructure or cloud technologies within a medium to larger enterprise environment.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Azure certifications are a plus but not required
Working Conditions:
- Must be available to work emergency storm assignment as required.
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
- Flexible to work outside of standard office hours if requested.
Interns are paid through our Managed Service Provider Program and are not employees of Eversource. Pay rates are hourly, based on year of graduation and if the role is technical or non-technical. Rates start at $18.12 for a freshman and go up to $27.63 for a graduate level student.
