Our Team:

We have a new exciting leadership role to join our Distribution Engineering Team.  The Lead Engineer for Strategic Projects holds a leadership role in the development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance, and operation of the system and its equipment, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and objectives. stem and its equipment, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and objectives. The Lead Engineer for Strategic Projects holds a leadership role in the development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance, and operation of the system and its equipment, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and objectives. This role uniquely blends engineering leadership and project management, focusing on all major projects within Distribution Engineering for Eastern MA North, which covers four Area Work Centers (AWC’s).

Project Leadership and Management

  • The ideal Lead Engineer will take charge of major projects, leading their execution and delivery. Success in this role means achieving key milestones on or ahead of schedule. The LE must maintain ongoing collaboration and communication with peers, leadership, and employees throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Team Collaboration and Compliance

  • In addition to leading union employees, the Lead Engineer will guide peers, internal and external to Distribution Engineering, to ensure all necessary engineering work for major projects is completed promptly and within budget, meeting financial compliance requirements.

Communication and Problem Solving

  • The Lead Engineer will actively engage with all department teams to collect periodic status updates and relay them to leadership. A crucial aspect of the position involves early identification of project roadblocks and engaging relevant stakeholders to facilitate their removal. The role is highly visible and directly impacts the company’s strategic goals.

Holding Accountability

  • The Lead Engineer will oversee project delivery by coordinating with their team and remaining accountable for team performance. They are responsible for holding their teams accountable for completing projects punctually and maintaining excellent standards of quality throughout the process.

Essential Functions:

  • Builds a capable technical team, oversees their performance, and conducts reviews

  • Assign priorities, and guides work for at least two full-time engineers or one engineer and one designer

  • Ensures designs, specifications, modifications, and replacements for transmission and distribution systems related to major projects such as ESMP, Reliability, Capacity, Strategy — as well as necessary permits and customer notifications — are prepared accurately and delivered on time

  • Prepares initial engineering designs and detailed plans when needed

  • Offers technical guidance to operating areas on system priorities, engineering principles, and operational choices during both routine and emergency conditions

  • Conducts root-cause analyses, devises corrective actions, and implements solutions

  • Evaluates and selects technologies and equipment for the system

  • Develops standards and procedures for design, operation, and maintenance

  • Steps in as Manager when required

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications

  • Technical Knowledge/Skill

  • Demonstrated front-line leadership. Experience leading covered employees preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate up, down, and sideways

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention-to-detail

  • Proficient in communicating to leadership

Education

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science in any Engineering discipline or B.S. in Engineering Technology

  • Electrical Engineering preferred

Experience

  • 8+ years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry

  • Supervisory experience required

Working Conditions

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required

  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary

  • Hybrid Schedule: Eversource supports work-life balance by offering hybrid schedules for certain roles. Eligibility is based on job responsibilities, operational needs, nature of work and team dynamics. Current guidelines require employees to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the third day set by the employee and supervisor based on department needs. These guidelines apply to roles approved for remote work and are subject to change, based on managerial discretion and work performance. All applicants must be able to work for up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.

$145,670.00-$161,860.00
