Locations: Stamford, Connecticut

POSITION SUMMARY:  Performs a variety of technical and customer-related work in connection with the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Company's electric system for an assigned geographic area. Supports various Eversource functions focused on residential and Commercial/industrial customers in the areas of new business, existing customer relations, and service requirements.

ACCOUNTABILITIES – PRIMARY DUTIES: 

  • Maintains and builds customer relationships by ensuring customer requests are met in a timely fashion.
  • Designs layouts for service additions and changes to the Company electric system using Company approved standards and policies. Performs technical calculations and prepares work orders as assigned.
  • Communicates internally and externally the Company requirements for electric service installation.
  • Designs, negotiates, and coordinates the installation and upgrade of residential, commercial, and industrial services including the preparation of cost estimates, work orders, and written service agreements as assigned. Works with others (e.g. Supervisors, Engineers) to prepare work orders for residential, commercial and industrial service installations and upgrade.
  • Prepares easement forms and easement areas for submission as required for services and extensions on private property.
  • Obtains permits as required.
  • Designs, negotiates and coordinates the relocation of overhead and underground facilities, including the preparation of work orders and cost estimates as assigned.
  • Recommends designs and coordinates installation of streetlights. Prepares work orders for the installation of lighting and unmetered services for customers. Prepares residential or commercial contracts.
  • Performs analysis/assistance/ assessments in emergency restoration in the facilitation of restoration efforts. Expected to work beyond regular business hours as required.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill: 

  • Sound knowledge of electrical distribution systems and construction standards and techniques.
  • Capable of skillfully operating various measuring instruments and testing apparatus such as range rods, corner/pull measuring devices, voltage measuring devices.
  • Capable of accurately interpreting, but not limited to, company maps, site and highway construction plans, profile prints, etc.
  • Effective communication skills with a concentrated customer focus. Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of Company policies, procedures, practices and electrical distribution engineering and/or construction standards; as they relate to the Eversource accounting system, customer billing, conservation programs, rates, prepayments and/or customer contributions, and the various computer programs.
  • Ability to proficiently use computers, including navigating work management systems, graphics work‑design tools, and Microsoft Office Suite applications such as Teams, Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office equipment. (e.g. Printers, Scanners, Plotters, Fax, etc.)
  • Knowledge of joint use agreements involving other utility companies.
  • General awareness of the National Electric Code as it pertains to service installations, customer requirements, and the Eversource Distribution System.
  • Working knowledge of the Company's Employee Safety Manual.
  • Capable of reviewing and/or inspecting electric service installations for compliance to Company standards.

Education/Experience:   Proven understanding of NESC with:

  • Associate’s degree in engineering or engineering technology, or related field

OR

  • Connecticut E-1 Electrician’s license

OR

      High School diploma or the equivalent. One year of formal technical training.  AND 4-6 years of related electrical distribution experience.

                                              Ex: Technical training is acquiring an: E-2 License, electronics technology certificate, completion of line apprentice program or related training.

Refer to Time Merit Progression (TMP) for experience required for each step.

Licenses & Certifications:   A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.

Working Conditions:  The position requires work in an office environment, at customer locations, on construction sites, and in the field including entry in manholes, vaults, and other locations where electrical equipment is located.  The position requires the use of company provided PPE.

Physical Aspects:

  • Desk work:  Computer use required for daily email correspondence, work order design, and engineering analyses.
  • Field work:  Walking on construction sites, along public way, and in off road situations will be required.
  • Vehicle use:  Vehicle use to travel to and from field assignments and well as to perform circuit patrols will be required.

The salary range for this position starts at Step 1 ($37.03/hourly) and progresses in accordance with the union contract. Check out the career site for an overview of benefits.

Bargaining unit employees under the TEAL contract will be given first consideration.  In addition, this position is being posted internally and externally.
