Senior Analyst, Energy Efficiency, Audit

This position is responsible for implementing audit initiatives in the Energy Efficiency business operations group which includes coverage in CT, MA and NH.  The Business Operations group supports corporate budgets, accounting and reporting, regulatory reporting, key performance indicators, metrics activities and audit activities.  This position is focused on the audit activities which include providing senior-level audit support to the management of Eversource’s Energy Efficiency (EE) organization, including interfacing with Internal Audit, SOX Control Group and Legal.  The individual will maintain the Energy Efficiency audit governance plan which is focused on risk assessments, implementation manual documentation, invoices review and approval, quality control procedures, and training.

As a function of this role the auditor will be responsible for engaging with energy efficiency senior management, internal audit and corporate legal and compliance on energy efficiency initiatives which might require addressing implementing processes and controls along with other functions listed below.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for coordinating all certifications reviewing and ensuring that all Energy Efficiency accounting and budgeting information is complete, accurate and maintained in accordance with the Company’s’ Accounting and Budgeting area requirements, as well as with regulatory decisions and orders.
  • Works effectively with all levels of management to provide audit support, analysis and problem-solving recommendations.
  • Using a COSO matrix to optimize effectiveness of internal controls and manage enterprise-wide risks, identify key controls and processes, and assess business processes in place, detect control gaps in existing processes, recommended improvements, and implement corrective action plans to close process gaps and remediate issues.
  • Contribute to vendor investigations, by reviewing data to verify legitimacy of business transactions, invoices, and supporting documentation required for authorization of vendor payments.
  • Oversee and monitor departmental initiative to update Energy Efficiency Program Implementation Manuals to include current processes and controls for all residential, commercial, and industrial programs.
  • Document risk assessments, including detailed descriptions of major risks, as well as establish processes and controls to mitigate risks, for each Eversource energy efficiency program.
  • Routinely evaluate the impact of energy efficiency initiatives on spending and energy savings and provided insight regarding the effect of trends on cost projections, energy program savings, and optimization goals.
  • Work with energy efficiency management on process issues related to special investigations and proposed strategic action plans to ensure that all controls were identified, and risks were mitigated.
  • Coordinate with procurement and energy efficiency program owners the review of contracts and scope of work regarding potential business risks, provide feedback to management on findings, and verified that terms noted in vendor contracts limited Eversource liability.
  • Responsible for optimizing audit process efficiency, driving, and monitoring progress of special projects and investigations, strengthening operational performance, and meeting fast-changing industry demands, demonstrating expertise in organization, schedule development, prioritization, and deadline management

Qualifications

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Knowledge and experience with the ES budgeting and forecasting process including internal systems.
  • Strong knowledge, experience and demonstrated ability in all areas of financial reporting, analyses, and financial model management. 
  • Must possess an understanding of financial reports (budgets, spending, etc.) and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Must be customer driven, display initiative, accepts responsibility, holds others accountable, participates in and facilitates team effectiveness, thinks and acts analytically.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions to support the mission, work independently and apply knowledge and skill to solve problems.
  • Develop and maintain an excellent working relationship with management
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel, in addition to other Microsoft Office applications (MS Power point, MS Word) and other business system applications.
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in running queries in various systems and data gathering. 
  • Requires understanding of regulatory processes and environment including the regulatory filing process. 
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business Management or a related discipline or equivalent experience.  Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience

  • Five (5) plus years related experience. 
  • Energy Efficiency, Accounting, Finance, Economics/Mathematics and Regulatory, Budgeting or Planning experience preferred.
