Performs a variety of technical assignments associated with the cathodic protection program for the Company’s natural gas distribution facilities. Monitors and maintains the corrosion control facilities by performing testing, inspections, and some repairs of these facilities. Initiates work orders for recommended improvements and maintenance of corrosion control facilities to ensure compliance with Federal regulations.Principal Duties: (LOCATION: Waterbury, CT)
Monitor the installation and maintenance of cathodic protection for corrosion control of gas facilities and performs testing and inspections to ensure compliance with Federal DOT Corrosion regulations where applicable.
Evaluate and update corrosion circuit records, rectifier notifications, and mapping
Work independently to complete monthly assignments and track subsequent areas of cathodic protection exception to meet various state and federal regulatory compliance requirements.
Operate and maintain specialized corrosion instruments to obtain field data under a wide variety of conditions.
Recommends improvements to material, construction and operating standards related to corrosion control as defined in the Eversource Construction Standards or Gas Operating Procedures.
Provide specifications, inspections and estimates relative to corrosion work by contractors, for typical cathodic protection system maintenance and installations.
Provide corrosion control expertise, within Eversource’s standards and practices, to Capital Construction team and Gas Operations group for cathodic protection upon request.
Troubleshoot cathodic protection systems within the scope of the TMP for the Corrosion Technician classification and initiate appropriate corrective actions; including work orders/job orders, State and Town permitting, CBYD mark outs and notification for the maintenance of corrosion control facilities.
Direct, monitor and inspect the work of corrosion contractors performing facility installation and repair work as needed.
Perform assessment of installation practices of new gas main construction i.e., proper coating application, testing/calibration of holiday detection and adherence to Eversource corrosion construction practices.
Maintain facility updates on corrosion software.
Perform inspections of factory coating applications on new gas Eversource gas piping upon request.
Other duties as assigned.
STARTING RATE OF PAY: $33.60 PER HOUR
Minimum Entry Level Requirements:
Education and Experience: High School Diploma and the ability to pass the applicable Federal Operator Qualification tests and the Time Merit Progression steps to be a fully qualified Corrosion Technician within three years.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The ability to understand electrical theory, basic chemistry principles and corrosion theory. Thorough knowledge of gas distribution operations and construction. Thorough knowledge of Federal and State codes relative to corrosion control. Thorough knowledge of the work management system. Ability to work independently. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
Working Conditions: Frequently exposed to gaseous atmospheres, high noise levels, and traffic, construction site hazards and hazards on customers' property. Occasionally required to travel.
This position is categorized as safety-sensitive for the purpose of drug testing. Successful applicants shall be subject to a pre-assignment drug test if the individual is currently in a non-safety sensitive position. As an employee in this position the individual shall be subject to random drug testing. A positive drug test will result in disciplinary action.
This is a union represented position so anyone going into this position would be required to become a member of the union.
