POSITION: 1 - Field Service Meter Reader

DEPARTMENT: Meter Reading and Collections
RATE: $41.06 HOURLY
DEFINITION:
AMR/Meter Reading Duties:
Read meters using AMR (ERT) technology such as DCU Data Pak or Handheld reading device in accordance with daily meter reading schedule. Read meters manually, including Power Book accounts and record reads appropriately. Install Itron AMR devices on meter indexes. Accurately record meter number, read and ERT ID in handheld and program ERT. Investigate problem AMR devices to determine cause of problem and take appropriate action to correct. Verify account information such as meter number, meter read, location and size. Process meter reading route data using meter reading computer systems including upload and download. Perform other similar or related duties as assigned.
Collection Duties:
Perform a variety of collection duties to attempt a positive contact which would include the customer making an electronic payment while at the door or locking the customer’s meter for non-payment. Work with the customer to agree on a payment amount and notify the customer to make arrangements with the Customer Contact Center on any overdue balance after the electronic payment is made. Work from collection orders, established regulations and moratorium rules, written and/or verbal instructions in performance of duties. Work warrants with the Sheriff’s office. Complete work order notating action taken and additional information as needed such as customer claiming protections.
Complete necessary work order accurately. Report unusual conditions encountered and special instructions. Report gas leaks and bypasses immediately. Safely operate motor vehicle.
This is a Safety Sensitive position and subject to random drug testing.
May be assigned duties in other Departments in accordance with the Labor Agreement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess a High School Diploma or GED
Must pass mechanical comprehension test.
Must pass DOT drug screen if not presently in a covered position
Must possess and retain an unrestricted MA vehicle operator’s license and meet safe driver requirements
Must have fitness and ability to perform assigned work
Must have aptitude for figures and demonstrated competence in maintaining records
Must have the ability to deal with customers tactfully and have a good appearance and habits
Must be regular in attendance
Must have the ability to perform assignments safely
Must have the ability to keep required records
SCHEDULE:
Monday through Friday, 7:30AM to 4:00PM. Shift is subject to change.
Residency requirement:Must live within 30 minutes from Springfield area work center.
WAGE PROGRESSION:
Eligible for automatic increases to Maximum Job Rate in accordance with the Labor Agreement.
