Locations: Somerville, Massachusetts

The incumbent is responsible for cleaning and maintaining buildings and grounds, and principal duties are cleaning, snow removal, and other general service work in and around office and service buildings and their associates.

POSITION:  UTILITY WORKER – BUILDING MAINTENANCE (A)

DEPARTMENT: FACILITIES

LOCATION: SOMERVILLE

RATE OF PAY:  $39.26

CURRENTLY POSTED HOURS: 6:00AM– 2:30PM

SCHEDULE: M-F

II. ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES INCLUDE:

A. Directs and instructs employees of lower grade under general supervision.

B. Directs the parking of motor vehicles in and around parking area.

C. Directs road patch work.

D. Cover asphalt holes on road and/or sidewalk with cold patch.

E. Operate motor equipment for snow removal such as plow, backhoe, skid steer.

F. Maintain, stock, and issue cleaning supply.

G. Report abnormal conditions and take corrective measures.

H. Perform clerical work associated with duties of this grade.

I. Use email and complete learning central as needed.

J. Keep grounds outside of buildings clean (including, power washing, street sweeping, leaf blowing, hedge trimming, and weed whacking

K. Interior cleaning duties include:

                A: Performs janitor service, dusts, cleans, and washes floors, walls, windows, toilets, washrooms, locker rooms, showers, furniture, and elevators.

                B: spreads disinfectant, replenishes soap, towels, and other supplies.

                C: Performs miscellaneous work in areas associated with Service Buildings such as: Weeding and                              cutting grass using hand and power motors.

                D: Empties waste baskets and recycle bins.

                E: Sands and clears snow and ice from walks and driveways and performs general yard cleaning.

                F: Moves office equipment.

                G: Waxes, buffs, and dry mops floors using manual and mechanical methods.

                H: Changes lightbulbs and lamps as necessary.

III. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to Facilities Management Supervisor.

IV. WORKING CONDITIONS:

Performs moderate physical work in all types of weather conditions.

V. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Must be able to lift minimum of 30 pounds.

B. Must be able to perform hard physical work indoor and outdoor all seasons and for

extended periods of time.

C. Must be willing to work afternoons, nights, weekends, holidays as needed

D. Must be certified or able to be certified to operate heavy equipment such as a Skid-steer or backhoe.

E. Must be certified to plow and use outdoor equipment familiar for outdoor

landscape work.

F. Be able to use machines for cleaning such as power washers and floor scrubbers

G. Must be capable of using computers and be familiar with windows.

H. Must have and maintain Massachusetts License to Operate Motor Vehicle

I. Must be willing to respond to ERP events as per Eversource Energy Standards.
