Program Manager, NERC Compliance

Leads in the coordination, monitoring, and execution of compliance activity associated with applicable NERC Reliability Standards with a particular focus on Cyber Security in addition to Protection and Control Standards. Monitors activity at FERC, NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation) and NPCC (Northeast Power Coordinating Council) levels to provide awareness to internal stakeholders. Represents Eversource strategic and operational interests within various governmental-industry organizations including NERC, NPCC , ISO-NE and NATF (North American Transmission Forum). Responsible for monitoring and analyzing pending NERC Standards that may impact Eversource. Manages and coordinates impact of new NERC Standards with impacted internal stakeholders. Responsible for coordinating Reliability Compliance interaction with various cross functional teams and leading cross-functional issue teams. Has lead role in assisting internal stakeholders in external audit preparation, internal self-assessments, external compliance certifications and internal investigations on potential non-compliances.

Essential Functions: 

  • Manage relationships with regulatory relations with NERC, NPCC and ISO-NE in context of applicable NERC Reliability Standards.  Monitors activity at the FERC, NERC and NPCC levels to provide awareness to internal stakeholders.
  • Represents Eversource strategic and operational interests within various governmental-industry organizations including NERC, NPCC, ISO-NE and NAFT. Maintain industry engagement with NATF and specifically with the Risk, Controls and Compliance (RCC) practice group. In addition, active participation on NPCC regional webinars on compliance topics.
  • Responsible for monitoring and analyzing pending NERC Standards that may impact Eversource.  Manages and coordinates impact of new NERC Standards with impacted internal stakeholders.  Responsible for coordinating Reliability Compliance interaction with various cross functional teams and leading cross-functional issue teams. Where appropriate, work with subject matters experts to develop Eversource position on new or revised NERC Standards and provide input into the Standards development process.
  • Lead role in assisting internal stakeholders in external audit preparation, internal self-assessments, external compliance certifications and internal investigations on potential non-compliances.   
  • Participates in preparation of materials for monthly Compliance Work Plan meetings.
  • Proficient in the use of Archer GRC (Governance, Risk & Compliance) application that manages tracking and monitoring of compliance activity.
  • Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Program Management and analytical skills.    
  • Demonstrated expertise in verbal and written communications, and formal presentations. 
  • Demonstrate expertise in relationship/team building both with peers, key internal stakeholders and external stakeholders (NERC, NPCC, ISO-NE, NATF).
  • Demonstrate ability to influence and lead others.
  • Develop proficiency in Archer GRC application
  • Ability to provide a high-level strategic viewpoint based on critical thinking supported by detail-based analyses.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently with all levels of management within Eversource organization and with external regulatory stakeholders (NERC, NPCC, ISO-NE).
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Strong ability to bridge technical matters via coordination with subject matter experts and communicate to management in a clear and articulate manner.
  • Proven track-record in planning, coordinating and managing multiple compliance activities
  • Proven ability to build trust, negotiate and develop common solutions with internal stakeholders with regards to possible non-compliance investigations.

Education:

Baccalaureate degree in business, engineering, science, or similar discipline or related work experience.                        

Experience:           

Minimum of five (5) to ten (10) years of experience.  Prior experience with NERC Reliability Standards is desirable. Comprehensive understanding of the electric utility industry.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
